Hi all,
Please.. I need some help. I currently live overseas and am experiencing some problems.
I am currently applying to USAFA and have recently been medically disqualified and put under review for a waiver. After at least 4 emailed PDFs were rejected by DoDMERB for numerous technological issues I finally faxed copies of the 2808 and 2807-2 successfully.
Along with the 2808 and 2807-2, I also submitted additional medical records (translated from Dutch to English) and x-rays to my POC upfront regarding the "YES" questions on the 2807-2 regarding my elbow injury (explained below).
One final wrinkle is that the eye portion of the medical exam had to be performed at a separate military medical facility because the location where the majority of the physical was performed could not fit me into their eye doctor schedule. To be clear, a military doctor did perform the exam but... the first doctor that performed the majority of the examination ticked "NE" on the Opthalmoscopic portion of the Results of Medical Exam because the eye appointment was later in the day at another location.
Here is what has happened...
First I received a notice that I would have to get an appointment to complete a 2351 because the Medical examination was incomplete. I have faxed the Opthalmoscopic results from the military doctor to DoDMERB and asked for a confirmation that they were acceptable. I did not get a response from DoDMERB answering my question. I will travel back to Germany if necessary to have another Opthalmoscopic Exam but.... Thoughts?
I have now received a notice that I have been disqualified for a "history of any dislocation, subluxation or instability of the elbow." I kind of knew that doctors would have questions. That is why submitted the translation on the front end.
I feel before I ask for help I should give some quick context.
1) In April of 2015, I dislocated and fractured my elbow at school and had to have surgery to have it temporarily pinned for the healing process.
2) After the cast and pin was removed, the joint was fully healed. After testing, the doctors found everything to be normal and there were no problems. (Dutch record translations I originally submitted indicates this clearly)
3) I have had no problems with my elbow since and have been a varsity basketball and varsity baseball player for all 4 years of high school. (I indicated this on the Administrative AMI for that was requested of me)
The DQ letter that I received mentioned the waiver process and asked that I forward any additional information on the elbow situation that I want considered. Because of the delays, and incomplete communication, I am now concerned that the medical records I originally submitted will not be forwarded with the waiver request.
Writing emails and waiting days for incomplete answers has me very concerned.
Anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
Thanks
