I had to send in an orthodontic questionairre and it seems to be I was DQ’d for active orthodontist wear past date of projected accession. My braces are gonna be taken off 2 weeks before R day , But i will have a lifetime retainer. Is that considered « active ortho wear » and will this disqualify me? Will I be waived? Thanks!

I have my LOA, so I’m competitive, I’m just scared it wont get waived.

No DD has a permanent retainer and she was not DQ'd for it. You may have to have your orthodontist complete new questionaire with correct date for removal.

I turned in a questionairre specifyng my braces would be removed June 28,2018 but that id have a retainer after. What do you think? Im assuming a retainer is still considered active orthodontics and that they will just have to waive it?

My DD had to complete orthodontist questionnaire last cycle (she is an AOG) and was not DQ'd. She had her braces removed in June 2017 and stated this on her Present Health Questionaire for this cycle. No DQ for permanent retainer. I think the problem may be that your questionnaire states removal on June 28th, only 4 days before R-day (which means this is when permanent retainer would be placed). Is there a minimum time before R day they have to be off stated anywhere on your remedial?

I forgot to mention my LOA is for USMAPS, so my R-Day is July 16th. Is it still cutting it close?

What date does your orthodontist state you are released from his care? If he requires any follow up care after placing retainer and this is on questionnaire that may be your problem. If it shows care would be needed after July 16th, it may be easily fixed by your doctor adjusting the time table slightly.

All it says is my orthodontic treatment will be done 6/28/18 and that I’ll have a retainer from 6/28 until (forever). Thats the only thing suggesting care after R-day.

I found an old post that stated the following, "Active orthodontic appliances are a disqualifying condition" ... "All orthodontic treatment must be completed, devices removed, and retainers (if indicated) in place prior to entering the Academy."

There may be something in your paperwork that is DQ'ing you for a July 2nd date, but may be no issue at all for USMAPS. I would ask your RC.

Tried to send you a PM but it isn't allowing me to. You may not have enough posts yet. I have some information that may be helpful.

You may email me if you like. ( Deleted by Mod) . Thank you.
You may want to ask an admin to delete post with your email in it since it has your name, for privacy protection purposes :)

I deleted it myself :) Though I dont really have a problem with my first and last name out there. Maybe because I’m naive.
