DS had his medical exam for ROTC today. He does have a history of asthma but no issues since 2011. The doctor doing his physical saw it in his records but commented that it won't be an issue since it was when he was young and has had no issues for several years. Seems very encouraging but don't really fully understand the process to know how much we can trust her comments. Thoughts? Thanks!

From my experience with my DS medical exam last year, I would not have any confidence in what his physician's opinion was. His outfit was definitely the low bidder. Most do not have any experience in the DoDMERB process other than completing the exam and filling out the form. Your experience could be different and your doctor could be well versed in the DoD medical process. I do hope your doctor was right. Asthma is tricky and most likely you will get some sort of remedial, at least the questionnaire to complete. Best of luck.

It is luck of the draw.

Two years ago my DS had a great doctor conduct his DoDMERB exam and her experience was clearly evident.

Your mileage will obviously vary.

My son's DODMERB Dr said the same thing about his inhaler use at 8 but it resulted in a spirometry remedial which was easily cleared.
