Hi, I got medically set back this year due to my injury. Will the school send me some kind of form in the future so I can secure my spot for class of 2026?

A= No.

NOTE: I'm sure they told you when you were being discharged about applying for Class of 2026. You should already be working on your application NOW. You will need to undergo the CFA and obtain a Nom again too.:wiggle:

The school said they will hold a spot for me next year because it’s a medical setback, they said I don’t need to apply for the school again. I’m just wondering how do I make sure that the school doesn’t forget me and will save a spot for me next year. I’m sorry that I didn’t make it clear in my first post.

Talk to admissions.

A = The "school" doesn't talk, people do. As NavyHoops said, talk to Admissions. "HOPEFULLY," the person(s) that told you this was an Admissions Officer. The ONLY ones that will admit you to USMMA, is Admissions. If not, you don't need to go on a public forum.... to find out what someone at USMMA told you.:wiggle:

The PC’s that were set back yesterday were told they would be welcomed back to the class of 2026 no mention of repeating the application process.

Lighten up Francis.

I suspect OP got their news right then, yesterday, and was looking to see if anyone had any insight into how it worked out for others. Parents, alumni or students here. Absolutely nothing wrong with inquiring, or looking for assurances/guidance. Obviously you will need to have direct info from admissions.

Of course official word shoukd/will come at some point from the school. And a call can be made. But not yesterday. Or today. And OP just got delt some devastating news…and is practicing the newly adulting-self person they are becoming. Who just had the rug pulled out from underneath. I hope your medical issue is minor. And that you heal completely and swiftly.

OP, doesn’t sound like anyone has experience with this here. And you will have to wait to find out via an exchange with admissions. But it will all work out, and it’s ok to inquire. In fact, it’s great to share here so others in your shoes may find this someday.

Good luck to you!!

@mattl09 sounds like you had a rough day. First, I am sure this is difficult and not what you envisioned. If you were my kiddo I would hug you first and ask to talk when you were ready.

Second, you have come to a place where you will get all manner of advice and counsel. First and foremost your health is first. Second, your relationship with your admissions officer is paramount.
I have empathy for this moment you are experiencing. I hope you follow through with the advice and relationship that you have with admissions and you achieve your goal.

In the meanwhile, this news had to suck. And I am sorry and appreciative that it may have knocked you in the gut.
You have safe advice above from @justdoit19 and solid support from @kpmom2013 @azmilmom can also weigh in here.

Keep your chin up. You made the cut. Few do. If this is what you want keep seeking sage counsel here and forge ahead.

@mattl09 so sorry to hear of your med setback. I wish you a speedy recovery from your injury. As you work on your recovery and conditioning, remember that you definitely have what it takes to be successful at KP and beyond. I am sure you are disappointed at not being part of this year's plebe class. But when you return next year, you will have some advantages over your new classmates. You will be one year older, more mature, and stronger, you can be even more prepared academically, and you will know what is in store for you during INDOC. Think of the stress of memorizing all that plebe knowledge during INDOC, and what advantage you will have already knowing a lot of it. You will also have the advantage of knowing some members of the class ahead of you. They will assist you in your plebe journey and you will likely be able to get advice on what to expect from different professors, what ponies are worthwhile using, and what to expect on your assigned ship during sea year. You also will likely have additional familiar faces from this year's plebe class who are academic setbacks. Keep your spirits up, work hard on conditioning and academics, and enjoy the extra time with your family. Best wishes to you.

I was medically set back. When one is medically setback vs. medically disenrolled one remains enrolled at the Academy. There is no need to reapply.

This was a long time ago for me so the process may be different but all I recall was that I maintained contact with my Company Officer to make sure there was a space for me in the company I wanted and I showed up on the appointed date. There likely was some contact with someone in admissions or the registrar to make sure I was registered for classes (just can't recall from the pre-interweb days) but that was it.

medical setback does require you to pass dodmerb again, and get cleared of whatever the reason was for the set back. But, at least as of a couple years ago, a setback is not disenrollment, and you do not have to "re-qualify" with the exception of whatever is indicated on the setback documentation.

During this year, work on the medical issue, pt, etc. Also stay involved academically. Attend year 1 of your plan B, or, at a minimum, take classes at a local college or juco/cc. You should try to keep your academic blood flowing.

You should have received paperwork guaranteeing you a spot in the Class of 2026 providing you are cleared for whatever medical issue you had. If you did not receive this paperwork you should email either Commander McCarthy or Commandant Stroud, and ask who to speak with to receive the needed paperwork. Should be two sheets and you need to return them asap. There is no need to reapply or get another nomination.
