I found out that I'm under waiver review right now at the naval academy. I know that the waiver process is up to the academy. Do they take into account how competitive you are as a candidate when deciding whether or not to grant the medical waiver? Also, would it help to send another, more detailed letter from my surgeon or would that be obnoxious?

Thank you in advance for responses :)

My son went through the waiver process and sent detailed letters from himself and his specialist. They were taken into consideration.....he received his waiver. Son faxed his in directly.

popeyesmom- what did the letters include and where did he fax it to? dodmerb or the academy? because dodmerb says that all info has to go through them first

All info must go thru DoDMERB:thumb:

Okay thank you. I'll send the letter through dodmerb. Does anyone know if the academy takes into consideration how competitive you are as a candidate when deciding about whether or not to give a candidate a waiver?

You must be competitive as a candidate to be considered for a medical waiver. That said, the degree of competitiveness is NOT the main factor in a medical waiver...the degree of risk mitigation for the disease, illiness, injury, condition, etc., is.:thumb:

Thanks for the responses! I found out I got my waiver today so I'm all squared away
