Does anyone know how long it takes to get a medical waiver completed? I was disqualified due to having an allergy to tree nuts and peanuts from when I was much younger. I successfully completed a food challenge and allergy test which deemed me not allergic to either of those. I submitted my paperwork about a month ago, but I have heard nothing from DoDMERB. I have been in contact with my DoDMERB POC, but I have not received any responses. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It seems more like rolling a die, were it could be 1 to 20+ weeks (using my d&d die) equally versus a bell curve where most are between x and y.

In DS' case, he received a waiver just under 5 months. But, it all depends on what is needed, availability of scheduling appts, how large a backlog, etc.

Yes, it varies. The SA requested the waiver pretty much right after DS was disqualified. Then between appointments and submitting the paperwork they requested, it took a couple months for the final decision.

In addition to the answers above, it takes as long as the waiver authority takes to render the decision. Not the answer you want to hear, but it IS the answer.

Mr. Mullen,
I would like to ask your advice on a few things. I have been awarded a 4-year NROTC scholarship, and today found out I was disqualified for visual acuity. I expected this, because I have worn glasses all my life, but I need to know specific actions I should take. Actually, I would like your honest advice and expertise. I am a navy brat, as both parents were in the navy and my father retired as a Master Chief. It has been my dream to serve the navy as a naval officer, and I don't want to mess this up. Is it okay for me to email you? Thanks in advance.
