Medical Wavier Question

Hello all,
I have a quick question to ask that few may know the answer to. If a candidate receives a medical waiver should that be taken as a very good sign or just another step in the process? If yes, do the majority of waiver recipients get appointed?

Thank you

P.s.

I realize that there are many threads on this topic, few of them mention if waiver holders are more likely than not to receive an appointment, however.

When I posted a thread asking if it was a good sign (after hearing they only started the waiver for candidates that they want) awhile back I remember people saying that it meant nothing more than I had one more Q but my dad insists that he worked for the government long enough to know that they don’t do paperwork for no reason.

Honestly, don’t get your hopes up. Nothing or no one can truly predict what admissions is doing. Best of luck!

Assuming you passed the CFA and you are academically qualified, a waiver makes you 3q.

If you have an LOA, you are good to go.

If not, you are 3q and still are in the running for appointment, but there are no guarantees.

They only look at waivers for people they might appoint.

Hold tight. It’s a positive step forward.

Just another step in the process. Nothing more nothing less. As long as you have not received a TWE you are still in the running.

Agree with all the above...a waiver unto itself does not mean anything other than you are medically qualified for ascension. One of the three "Q's". If you have all three, academics, physical fitness, and medical with an LOA you should get notification of an appointment. No LOA, it means you are fully qualified an waiting. Nothing more, nothing less. A good step but by itself means you have one more of the three prongs.

From the DODMERB website: "However, in the case of the Service Academies, the Service Academy Admissions Office may not even forward the examination to the Medical Waiver Authority for waiver review if in the eyes of the Admissions Office the applicant is not considered competitive for a chair." Obviously still doesn't mean an appointment is forthcoming but seems like progress.

there are no guarantees, but receiving a waiver from USNA is most definitely a good sign

Thanks! I got one awhile back and I’m trying to not let it get my hopes up... but good to know.

My DS was told by USNA Admissions a week or so ago that a waiver would be sought from the WA if they intended to appoint. No waiver sought (yet). USAFA informed him they were seeking a waiver within 2 weeks of his DQ back in December. WA has requested AMI.

Please don't be slow about getting the AMI (Additional Medical Info) to the WA … Scan doctor reports and lab tests and send to Academy Medical Liason and well (snail mail too) ….

Everyone is competing for a Fixed space …. Musical chairs …. so be quick about it.

Ok so what is WA? We sent in the AMI (which was requested by USNA who said they were processsing a waiver) to DODMERB only and the response was thank you, give us 30 days to process. UGH!!
Should we send it to the Academy Medical Liason too?

Thank you for any guidence

@Honor24/7 the WA is the particular Waiver Authority for each academy. It is the person or persons (Committee) that grants or denies your waiver. Sometimes the WA requests additional evidence or exams thru DoDMERB, sometimes they do it directly. If DoDMERB requested something send it to them....but that does not mean you cannot send a copy (mark it as a copy) and send it to the particular WA also. I have not heard if that is the right thing to do or not, but I would think for piece of mind that sending it to the WA shouldn't hurt. Call your Medical Review department and see if you can send them a copy directly.

Scan all doctor reports and tests to PDF format and send the his/her DoDMERB Liason Email address (talk to the DoDMERB case handler before sending them via Email.

Send the same PDF images to his/her Application Officer at USNA, explain what they are, and see if the AO can get the scanned images over to the USNA Medical Liaison in the Medical Review department.

Also send originals and or scans by Email to "USNA, Attn Medical Waiver/Review Department, 52 King George St …..

Don't be shy.... This shows a real want, and they want kids that want to be there …

Play musical chairs to win.
