I recently got my eye exam and am color deficient and have 20/40,20/30. What are my chances to be waived

There are many threads with extensive discussions on color deficiencies in the USNA forum. Try the Search functions.

If you do a Google Search on “Naval Academy color blindness,” that usually produces a number of hits on SAF.

There is no way to tell if you will get a waiver. USNA has the flexibility to grant a small number of those specific waivers each year. If those candidates are offered an appointment, they are given guidance about what career paths will be open to them, usually in the Restricted Line or Staff Corps (many threads on these) for the Navy. Unrestricted Line (URL) are the warfare communities USNA is designed to feed: surface ship, submarine, aviation, SEAL, EOD, etc.

Assuming you get a nom, pass the CFA and are otherwise competitive, you will essentially compete against all others in this boat for the handful of color deficiency waivers.

Do not give up, as candidates in your situation do have a shot. If your goal is service as an officer via USNA, and you are flexible enough to happily serve in other paths, it could happen.

Don’t forget NROTC uses the same physical standards. If memory serves, NROTC does not have the flexibility to waive. I’d have to go look at those same threads to remind myself about Marine option.

If you were considering USCGA, I don’t believe they waive at all.

Work through the process, build out alternative paths, read through past discussions here on SAF but realize primary sources are best, and just because something happened in the past, does not mean it will be the same this year.

My standard answer on colorblindness is that it makes an already competitive process even more competitive.

Also, it's my understanding that colorblindness is not an issue for USMA and USAFA. You may want to consider those options as the going will be easier.
