In I got surgery for my collarbone and got metal hardware and screws to help the bone heal. It has been perfectly healed for months now, but is there a better chance at passing the waiver by getting a second surgery before the medical exam and taking out the screws and risk the longer recovery time? Or does it not matter having the metal plate?

Spend some time looking through this document and see what the standards are related to that situation. I would be careful to assume having them removed is a better idea without doing some research. Also, if you don't have your medical records in hand I would work on requesting those as it can take a while to get them. You will need them from the provider, not downloaded from a patient portal.
