My DS takes antibiotics for severe and painful acne. When he is on the medication his acne is light and his face is pain free. When off the antibiotics his acne is painful and break outs are severe and most embarrassing. I read that medications for acne is not allowed during BCT. Is there any way to get a waiver so he can continue taking his antibiotics? Would a letter from his personal physician explaining the degree of his acne help?

He just needs to bring it with the medication with the prescription on it. They will go through his meds and review them. Its his cadres jobs to ensure all his needs are met and that includes medical. To be totally honest even with the meds, with the amount of sweat and dirt in Jack's valley I wouldn't be surprised if his acne flares regardless. Once the academic year starts its much easier to maintain a good regiment for things like that. I would also recommend once the school year starts he makes an appt with the dermatologist so he can establish an early relationship with them and he can get his meds on base.

If you look at page 13 in the Instructions To Appointees Handbook for the Class of 2020 it states that acne medications are not allowed until after BCT. That's why I was asking if a waiver was a possibility. I would cut and paste it here but I don't know if that is illegal or not.

I saw that info as well on page 13 and figured my DS would not be able to use his prescription acne medication until after BCT. I hope that's not the case.
