Hello!

I am in my first year of Community College and am planning on transferring next year into a university with the NROTC program. By the chance that I actually getting the scholarship (2-3 year) do I need to fill all transfer requirements of the university into my major (BioChem) prior to transferring? The reason why I'm asking is because NROTC is a 4 year program and I will be already up to Calculus III and Physics II by the end of my second year of CC.

Hopefully I was able to explain this correctly.

Thanks.

I don't necessarily understand what you are saying.

But, in order to receive a 2-3 year scholarship you will have to be in the NROTC unit to receive that nomination from the CO. This means you'd have to spend a year or a semester in the naval battalion before your scholarship packet would be sent to the board over the summer. This means, spend a year at your college, and then you'd run for a 2 year scholarship.

If your GPA could transfer to the university you're transferring too, that would be best. The reason why is because the board for the 2 year scholarship likes seeing what grade you got in Calculus I/II and Physics I/II. I tried taking Calculus II over the summer, but my unit wouldn't let me, because I would have received no grade, and just the transfer credit.

I don't necessarily know what you mean by fill all transfer requirements. All you really need to know in order to get a 2 year/advanced standing, is be with the NROTC unit for a year, and the battalion staff will help you submit a packet for the summer. You just need to transfer to the university in order to participate.

As far as being late to the NROTC program, you should be okay. You'll be behind, but okay. We had a sophomore this semester come into the battalion, and she came from AFROTC. She'll send in an advanced standing packet for this summer.

I think I understand what you are asking.....Can you enter into ROTC with 2 years of college completed? If that is your question, the answer is probably, depending on your school and Battalion. Your credits should transfer, but I believe you will still need to do 4 years of ROTC to be Commissioned (even if you only get a 2 or 3yr Scholarship). You can use those extra two years to take more MS Courses (if available and possibly graduate ROTC early), or double major, or possibly start a graduate program. My DS was IB/AP in High School and the ROTC Program he is accepted into (still waiting for USMA) allows him to transfer his AP/IB credits. If he does ROTC he will enter as a Junior or 2nd Semester Sophomore but still have to do 4 years ROTC (he has the 4yr ROTC Scholarship). He plans to use the extra time to take grad courses and pay the difference in tuition, but could be 2/3 of the way thru Law School when he's Commissioned and then finish Law School and enter JAG (with the extra years added to his AD).

Not exactly how I intended to ask it but I got my answer from them. Thanks very much, I got to know a bit more than I needed also.
