Meeting with recruiter while in USNA/NROTC app process

That's awesome! My son's recruiter ran with him to push him. He ran the 3 miles in 20 minutes. He's not a runner! The pullups are where he struggles. He's 6' and 190 lbs. He's continuing to work on them. He was able to do 12...he wasn't happy but keeps working on them. He's also applying MO.
He refuses to apply for anything other than NROTC. If USNA, Prep, or NROTC scholarship don't work out he will still be attending a SMC (looking into other scholarships now) or a State University and join NROTC.
My kiddo was the same way. Would only apply NROTC MO. No Army. No Academy. NROTC MO. Period.

What SMC's is he looking at? DD accepted to The Citadel and waiting on VMI. She found pull ups were all about practice and running all mental lol

My husband had a difficult time with that decision. He was looking at the different opportunities each Academy brings. My DS refused and I truly feel that we must trust his judgement. He just said that it was a feeling that he had that he couldn't explain. He knows that's where he belongs. As parents we have to let go and let them live out their dream. He just wants to be a Marine and with that kind of determination I have no doubt he will land exactly where he is meant to be.

He's been accepted to Citadel. Yay! He did not apply to VMI although I think he would love it. We have not had an opportunity to visit. We visited Citadel in April and met with an admissions director. He loved the school but is going to schedule an overnight visit. He did a CVW at USNA in April as well. He's been to USNA twice, STEM and CVW.
We live in FL so Citadel is about 8 hrs. away (easy drive) and we love Charleston. From what I understand, VMI is a little more isolated. I truly can't comment on it since we haven't been. If I had all the time in the world and unlimited funds I'd travel to all of them! My DS is also my oldest so this is all new to me.

DD doing an overnight at Citadel in January. We visited last October, met with admissions and she absolutely loved the school. Applying to VMI was at my request to have options but in her heart she feels The Citadel is the best fit for her (she really enjoyed Charleston and being near coast). She did CVW at USNA in September. She is my only so this is all new and very surreal. I hear you on the time and unlimited funds!

I'm thinking he will visit in January as well. That seems to work with his lacrosse schedule. We'll keep in touch!

My last assignment was as the XO (Executive Officer) of a USMC RS (Recruiting Station). The MO NROTC Scholarship Program is administered by the XO with assistance of the enlisted Marine Recruiters in each local RSS (Recruiting Substation).

Successfully mining and shepherding a candidate who ultimately is awarded a MO NROTC Scholarship can be likened to successfully hunting a unicorn.

Enlisted recruiters are there to recruit enlisted Marines and Sailors. In short, once they identified a viable candidate to me, it essentially became my responsibility to finish the race. My CO wanted his Recruiters to get bodies on the yellow footprints at Parris Island.

Recruiting potential Officers is a way different mindset and approach compared to enlisted Marines and Sailors.
