I was wondering if the Naval Academy is doing anything special on Memorial Day (like a march or parade) and if there is anything I should bring when visting the Naval Academy

Graduation and Commissioning ceremonies are that Friday. Many mids will be off to summer training or leave.

Note from the May USNA composite calendar:

"NOTE: Most public events after graduation, except for Visitor Center tours, will be suspended on the Yard while Midshipmen are on Summer Training and leave. The new Plebe Class of 2013 will report on July 1 for Plebe Summer Training until mid- August. The full Brigade returns on August 18 and Academy events will resume. Visitor Center tours will operate on regular schedule during the summer period. See details at the top of this calendar."

The Yard turns into a ghost town after Commissioning Day, 22 May this year. NASSters, summer campers, summer school midshipmen, mids there for various other training blocks will be in and out -- but a whole class of a 1000+ has stepped over into Gold Bar land, and the remaining 3 classes have scattered. That's why when everyone comes back after major leave periods, it's "Reform of the Brigade." Post-commissioning day up to I-Day is one of the quietest times of the year.

Only parades during the summer are plebe practice parades and one for the parents during PPW.

Memorial Day weekend -- usually no special events planned. Faculty and staff enjoy a federal holiday, unless the schedule calls for the holiday Monday to be a class day for summer schoolers or other training.
