Mention MidSib in NASS Personal Statement or Not?

The prompt asks in part, Why you are interesting in NASS? For my second DD, her sister being a Mid has given her insight as to why she wants to attend, (along with many other reasons). Do you think she should include the fact her sister is attending in her essay?

Your opinions are appreciated
TIA

I wouldn’t recommend to use is as a ‘name drop’ kind of thing, but certainly if older sister plays into it? Then yes. Our DS mentioned bc he had a lot of his exposure through older bro, and has had a lot of in depth discussion about USNA with older bro. He was indeed part of the interest level since he knows the demands, etc from his brother.

.
Doesn’t the application ask somewhere, in “Yes/No” form, if you are related to a current or past Midshipman?
.

Use it as a “bridge” to expressing your thoughts: “While I have learned much about USNA by listening to my sister, Midn x/C Gabe, I want to experience NASS for myself and explore ... “
Just a mention in passing but a focus on her own unique reasons and interests.

Negative. It asks why you want to attend. I think for most sibs, their sib being there or having attended plays a role. Just curious on thoughts for the group.

Thank you Capt MJ. Great and thoughtful reply as always. That is the tactic she took.

Given that one of the primary objectives of NASS is promoting awareness of USNA, and the kid from some underrepresented area would likely get the spot over the kid who has spent the last couple years visiting sibling, I would hesitate to use the connection. However, if you do reference your sibling, then CAPT MJ nailed it...its not about her, its about you learning more about USNA,

Excellent point.

Thank you for the input. This was, in part, why I asked the original questions. My DD ultimately decided to included in her personal statement her sister's experience, and impact on her decision to pursue USNA. She felt it would have been disingenuous to exclude this.

Thanks again for your input. It is always excellent.
