MEPS vs. DoDMERB

Hello all. I am a senior in high school and in addition to applying for ROTC scholarships for college, I also signed my DEP enlistment with the Air Force as one of my backup plans. I went to MEPS, took the ASVAB, went through medical, and swore into the DEP all that fun stuff. Now if I receive an ROTC scholarship, or just want to go to college and do ROTC even if I do not get a scholarship, then I can still DEP-out of the enlistment and go through ROTC for an officer career. My main question is, how does the MEPS physical compare to DoDMERB, what's the same/different? Another question I have is if I DEP-out and do ROTC instead, will my DoDMERB answers have to match up to my MEPS physical answers/documentation? And will my MEPS physical still be in the system as part of my military medical history, or will it just be (for a lack of a better phrase) tossed out because I would no longer be enlisting and DoDMERB will apply to ROTC and my officer career? Hey man. I went through MEPS and DoDMERB. MEPS was a lot worse. More waiting, more BS, more extensive. DoDMERB was filling out some stuff, doing a quick physical and a quick eye exam. I liked DoDMERB more. The exams were on two separate dates and didn't take long at all. Also its a contracted civilian medical office, not military doctor. You also set your own appointment, do it at the earliest available date. I'm not 100% sure if the information will be passed over. I know exactly what you're talking about and mine didn't exactly match if you know where I'm going (you can also message me and can talk specifics about the disclosure stuff if you'd like). Don't know if it's kept or not, wouldn't stress it as I believe DoDMERB will be your primary medical records, but once again not certain. Fill free to ask any other questions or message me. bro, question. Will dodmerb see my files from meps? I got pdq'd from meps with no chance of a waiver for a silly childhood adhd thing. It doesn't affect me. I was wondering, would DODMERB see the files from MEPS or can I just do it right this time and not say anything little like that?
 
I don't know either. So you are going to lie on your DoDMERB medical history and your medical exam. You will make a fine officer.
 
To be honest, I don't care. I need to be in the military. I've tried all branches but they don't need people right now. I'm more than functional too. I simply look like **** on paper.

Please don't turn this into a big argument. Each person has a side to their story so it's just not worth getting into it and dividing the forums
 
How on earth does one NEED to be in the military? You SERVE your country based on the needs of the service.

Not the poster, but to fill in my answer as I feel this "Need." I feel it is my moral obligation to my family and my country to serve and do what I can to pass on this great freedom and democracy I've been blessed with. I'm a huge, huge Reagan nerd, and this quote is one of the few I live my life by: "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free." This quote is why I would say I personally need to serve. And no, I'm not stating that freedom will be lost just because I don't serve. It's that it's not up to me to sit back and make others fight for my freedom. Something I must earn and preserve rather than others for me. That's my philosophy as to why I need to serve as someone had called me out on saying the same thing before, so thought I'd contribute

Your need and desire to serve is admirable, and I am not being sarcastic.

But, lying and hoping not to be caught is not admirable.
 
When you are an officer candidate, a pretty extensive background check is conducted to qualify for secret clearance.

They will in all likelihood catch up to you.

Then what?

There are other ways to serve besides in the armed forces. DOD, CAP, Peace Corps, etc.

Unfortunately I do not think so. This poster is for real and has been on the forum since October. And it looks like they want to join your DS in the Army, maybe even USMA.
 
YA but they won't care when I'm in already. And it's a moral need. I hate sitting around too. I was told, when they find out, and they will, during the backround checks, they wont care after that once they invested money and youre already past ocs and all basic training.

I don't care if that's the undesirable part. Lying. I just want to get in and be my best in there. Rank up. And show myself I can be something. I just need a chance to prove it.

First thing though, just know that rank isn't everything. If and when you do get in, don't focus on stuff just for your rank. Worry about your people over your pay grade

That is where you are 100% wrong. Regardless of monetary investment, the military WILL kick you out with a dishonorable discharge, which will follow you for the rest of your life and negatively impact future employment.

Why not come clean now, and seek a waiver for whatever medical condition you are trying to hide? You would be surprised at what is waiverable if you explain it.
