Can someone explain to me what this academy is all about. I have not heard much of it.

"A ship at sea does not operate in a vacuum" Love that line in the text. Absolute truth, and my kid knows it first hand.

After three years of trying to explain to people what my son is doing at USMMA, part of me just wants to smile and say nothing.

But I can't help myself! I'll tell anybody who will listen - what a great adventure Kings Point ha been. He will come home from the Persian Gulf for four days, then back to the Academy to start his Sr. Year! Sure went fast for us - he says he remembers every day..........
 
Seems like yesterday we were dropping them off. I love explaining the Academy and always smile when people tell me that they did not know the Marines had their own Academy.
 
Just think of the questions I get when I work one of the HS College Fairs as an Admissions Rep in my area for Kings Point. It is one of my great joys in life...seeing the eyes widen and the interest peak as I tell the KP story to someone for the first time. The interesting thing is that the West Point, Annapolis and Colorado Springs folks in attendance are often my best "recruiters"...I have had it happen on more than one occasion at a college fair where one or several of the folks representing these other academies say something to a student like..."don't leave here tonight until you also talk to that guy over there with the merchant Marine Academy". True story. Happens almost every single time I participate in a HS College Fair.
