Anyone know the policy for Plebes getting liberty after Army-Navy game?

We're a Philly family and have a big group attending the game hoping to see our Mid after the game at tailgate and possibly spending the night in town with us. I've been telling DS for 2 months to find out (of course Dad knows nothing:rolleyes:) and he text's last night that he may have missed deadline to request liberty. Ugh...

Curious is anyone knows the process.

if it's like previous years, Plebes have plenty of free time before the game for tailgates, and then all the mids need to muster a few hours prior to kickoff for the march on.

Plebes often can get a chit approved to travel to the game on Friday with upperclass buddies, which gives them liberty. If they get approved, they are free Friday night, and Saturday morning till the muster, then free after the game till Sunday sometime. If not, they have a little time after the game till the busses leave

Do you mean an overnight? I would bet that is company specific. Your mid should submit the request up his company chain of command. If he's trying to take an overnight, that should be relatively easy to approve assuming all other parameters are met.

(My son has already taken 5 of them! Probably wouldn't have if his GF wasn't within the liberty range. Or our place).

Tough love here - he may be figuring out with other plebes what they want to do, and parents/family have now become the default setting, an option if nothing else pans out, to be left hanging and inderinformed until the last minute. May require a parental recalibration on being thoughtful of other people, which includes parents.

There is a definite drumbeat of scheduled actions on the timeline to A-N weekend, and the logistics associated for the buses (busses are not something I need to know details on) are an early checkpoint. Buses and drivers have to be arranged per external contractor and established contract operations procedures.

They used to have an “early bus,” about 30 minutes after Blue and Gold or whoever sings second, and a late bus at midnight or 2 AM or thereabouts. Then there are the individual request options to take overnights, ride with family or upperclass, etc. much will depend on plebe status, company policy, etc.

Paging a Real Mid of Annapolis, @Skipper07 as to how to advise your plebe. Of course, your plebe can just ask the chain of command, but if trying for an overnight if he has one to take, he should be ready to detail his return plan to USNA. Riding with parents is a pretty good case for the operational risk assessment.

@JudgeGuy you’ll appreciate we fried up some Taylor Pork Roll for lunch, put it on a buttered and toasted Martin’s potato bun. DH threw some “hots” on his, and we had Amish garlic pickles on the side.

Did someone say Porkroll???? That is like throwing up the bat signal!

Yes DW was wondering if Plebe son making own plans and back burnering us :)

Wow.. I never thought I would ever see the term Plebe and Upperclass "buddies" in the same sentence, at least in the context of first semester Plebe year. Maybe on athletic teams, but back in the day, Upperclass weren't buddies..

My foggy recollection...long long ago was that the busses had kind of a rolling departure schedule... starting shortly after the game those that had to be back for one reason or another (watch, other events, etc) then they kind of left on an ad hoc basis as they filled up, with a hard stop sometime late in the evening. I think they even had next morning busses as well..

As recently as 2018, plebes couldn’t travel in a personal vehicle, or take an overnight for army navy. We tried to make that happen. At least in certain companies.

Also surprised a plebe has had 5 overnights, first semester (@IronmanDaremo). That was also not the case with mine.

Also keep in mind that the game is right before finals. So mids -- especially plebes -- have to weigh extra time away vs. need to study. One thing that is always true: after the first semester, half of the plebes will be in the bottom half of their class academically. For most, this will be the first time this has ever happened to them. So studying is important.

must be company specific, in 2018 our plebe son and his buddies all met us at the hotel the night before the game and we were all at the tailgate when it opened at 6 - makes for a very long day :)

EDIT - that was 2019, we didn't make it to the game in 2018 , i think 2018 was the last time it wasn't foggy and rainy

My plebe had to file a SRC (Special Request Chit) to ride back with us to DTA after the game. He is taking upperclassmen overnight that gives him Fri-Sun, but as he is in Glee Club, he is supposed to be on one of the first busses leaving the Yard Saturday morning

Trivia moment for the plural of “bus”:

The buses vs. busses thing.

I’ve had a big grin on my face throughout this thread as I’ve contemplated busses at all hours of the day.

Man, I like the pre-1961 version of busses. I can't get fuses and buses straightened out in my head. How can one sound one way, and one the other? Makes no sense.

The case for most 4/C is they are required to ride the bus from USNA to the game and back. 3/C are required to bus to the game as well but can POV back with an SRC. 1/2/C can POV to and from the game

The plural of “house” should be “hice.” Similar to louse/lice, mouse/mice. I am glad English is not a language I had to learn later than childhood.

Ok, I am putting the cover down over this rabbit hole.

Busses to all. You can decide what I mean.

Plebes start with one per semester. He got two more from home game football wins and two more for maintaining over a 3.2 through the 6 and 12 week exams. He certainly isn't complaining! :p

One of his upperclassmen said he's basically a Civilian with the amount he's been off!
