The Midstore card, also known as the Yard Card, was disbanded as of May of 2019. The academy found the card to be too expensive for the amount of use it got.Yes. If memory serves, you’ll get temporary shopping card before I-Day, which you then trade in for a permanent card at the store. Should be no problem at all shopping before the big day.
If you see the t-shirt with all the class names on the back, snap it up. They sell out on I-Day.
Is (was) the Yard Card different from a mid store purchase-privilege card (as referred to in MidCakePa’s comment)?

The Yard Card (for Mids) was discontinued, NOT the Parent's Midstore Card. Two different cards. The Midstore card, also known as the Yard Card, was disbanded as of May of 2019. The "ID card that will allow free passage through any USNA gate for a Mid-Parent for the next four years" is called a DBIDS card. It qualifies as a "military ID" for 10% off at the Visitor Center Store.10% discount with military ID at Visitor Center Store.
Never had the ‘yard card,’ and know they got rid of that, but did get a card for shopping at the Mid Store (there is a temporary one in the PTR as discussed-although I didn’t have mine on IDay and had no issue shopping). Actually received it parents weekend at the Mid Store. They had a table set up where we traded our temporary one for a permanent one. I THINK that is all done through our Mid with all the processing he did throughout Plebe Summer.
Was there supposed to be the temporary card in the PTR for 2023? If so, there was not one, nor any info about it in mine.
It will be in the "parent packet" which is mailed separately from the Permit To Report package, to the Plebe's parent(s).
