Mid willing to answer questions

If I want to branch Aviation, but my eyesight is currently not great (I am correctable to 20/20 though), can I get surgery before branch selection so my eyesight won't DQ me?
Along with what was said. PRK is what the navy calls it and is very common. Most will get PRK their 2/C year so they'll be fine before service assignment. As said its also paid for by the navy.

Hello,
My question relates to plebe summer and sport selection. Do you recommend doing boxing or wrestling to validate?
This is all assuming i receive a BFE not a TWE... Fingers crossed.
Thanks.
It honestly depends on what you want to do. I tried out for the sailing team, but boxing is an option if you want. The only benefit is that you get 6 free periods during your first semester. I would recommend boxing if you were going to choose one however as its almost impossible to get an A during the AC year, but more common over the summer. @Skipper07 maybe you could chime in since you're in plebe year now.

Hi, so I've recently been appointed to USNA (and USMA, I'm deciding between the two still) with hopes of branching Naval Aviation to be a helicopter pilot. Do you know how difficult it is to branch Aviation at USNA? Also, what is the political science like program at USNA? That's what I would like to major in, and was wondering if you had any insight about it.
Well first off congrats! When it comes to Naval Aviation about ~250 get it (little under a quarter of a class). So it's not that difficult comparatively. I'm a Quantitative Economics major so I'm not that familiar with the Political Science program here. But through my friends in my company who are poly sci say they love it. It's definitely a manageable workload and they rave about their professors. If it's what you want to pursue this is a good place to do it since we're close to DC as well. See you this summer hopefully!

Hello!
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Going to USNA has been my dream (and a major driving point in my life) since 4th grade! A quick question—what is your #1 piece of advice for applicants, especially relating the the application process itself?
What I told my NASS candidates last summer was to get the application done as soon as possible. USNA does rolling admissions so having your package done early can only help you. I also told them to make it known that they want to come here, list your reasons, also show them you want to be an officer and want to serve your country. In the end, that's what we're here to do. You can do this in your essay, BGO interview, and nomination applications. This is also the best opportunity to brag about yourself, don't leave anything you think is important out. I hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you have any questions while applying!

Branching aviation at USNA is a lot easier than USMA. Usnas class of 2020 had 1/4 of the class branch into aviation as compared to USMA only having 50 cadets going aviation. Your aircraft that you will fly will be decided at flight school if im not wrong. Also, if I'm wrong here feel free to correct me, but I believe it's easier to fly rotary wing as a lot of people want to fly jets and it is more competitive going fixes wing.

While this might have to do with you @cryptic7, I thought I’d throw this out there.
At USAFA, roughly half the class goes onto pilot training, so the chances of going into aviation are best there, although the army has lots of helicopters, so there is also that.

Congrats on the appointments!!!

Feel free to post questions for a current (virtual) plebe as well.
> Menu for Noon Meal.....GO ! (Sorry, couldn't resist !)

Seriously, how are they keeping up with Plebe Rates and Professional Knowledge? (I'm guessing Rates went out the window, but hope we can keep up the Professional Training).

Hi, I'm a sophomore in high school so I still have time to improve my grades and hold stronger leadership positions. What are some of the EC's that you participated in and did you hold any leadership roles? Do you have any recommendations for strong EC's I could take part in next year? Also, do you think there is anything I could do during this quarantine to help my community that may stand out to USNA?

Boys State. Deliver meals, prepare meals, etc etc for elderly

@USNAMA2022hopefull Thank you for your helpful input. Are you saying that boxing is not required at USNA? I thought it was but perhaps that was USMA. Can you choose wrestling instead and avoid boxing altogether?

Sir, the menu for noon meal is servery!

As you guessed, rates went out the window. Unfortunately, we lost out on a lot of plebe year training and traditions. The PCBs have been moved to fall semester next year. There is currently no formal professional training going on higher than the company level.

Boxing and wrestling are required for all plebes. The majority of the plebes who box over the summer validate.

How is the quantitative economics department?
I love it! The teachers are really there to make sure you succeed and the discussions in the classroom are great. The major is very flexible which allows you to focus on different areas in economics (ie International trade/relations, Business Economics, Mathematics, or Micro/Macro policies) all these focuses come with different classes to take that you find interesting!

As said above Boys State or student government is something to get into that helps. If you're a Boy Scout get your eagle. Right now I recommend making sure your grades as high as possible as now is a good time to buff up that GPA. If you want to get involved in your community maybe start some fundraiser of some kind to benefit the elderly. But, I really recommend just staying home and safe right now.

i am very anxious to know these answers as I would lay down my LIFE for my country and would be HONORED to serve. I have made mistakes in the past have vowed to never repeat them. um, i also scored a 97 on the asvab if for some reason that would help my case
1.) can you join the navy if you have done lsd- not abused it but used it twice?
2.) how long do records stay at MEPS?
3.) can you join the navy or the navy rotc if you have been kicked out of the marine corps dep?
4.) will another branch know if you confessed to doing drugs at meps but never tested positive?

u said u were a midshipmen so if you don't know the ansers to these questions would you be able to ask your superior and/or local recruiter? it would be very much appreciated

I'm also a current plebe and I would not recommend that unless those are sports that you enjoy.

Plebe PE is eight weeks of boxing and eight weeks of wrestling; each meets for one class period a week. I personally hated boxing, but looking back, those eight hours of my life weren't hard to survive, and having that extra time to do other schoolwork probably wouldn't have helped me very much.

Over plebe summer, I spent my sports period with a group of people that I didn't bond with particularly well and an activity that I didn't enjoy very much. Coming from that experience, I think it's incredibly valuable to have sports period be a part of your day that you look forwards to, because other parts of Plebe Summer will be awful enough. You're allowed to go to different sports for the first couple days of sports period to help you decide what you want to do, and I highly recommend taking advantage of that.

‘Even Mohammed Ali wouldn’t get an A in this class.’ That was how the boxing coaches started the class.

> As I remember it, the Instructors just wanted to see blood ! It was funny, everybody went in to the "final" with a plan with their partner, how they would make each other look good, etc. Those plans went out the window with first contact, and some of bouts turned into real brawls !
