Any official date or ideas how the midshipman will return to USNA this summer and how the summer programs will be run?

DOD travel moratorium through June is the rule of the day. There may be exceptions, but don't see why SAs would get priority over AD personnel.

DD is a detailer for Plebe Summer and she says this one will be like no other before it. Several scenarios floating around, trying to make the most of a difficult situation. Those who've been through PS will be tempted to roll their eyes and sigh..."not a real PS, they're getting off easy..." and so forth. Maybe. But again, trying to make the most of a difficult situation.

DS told me that there is a high likelihood that mids will be home this fall. Two classes this summer (remote) and remaining additional classes in the fall to constitute a semester’s worth of credits, with hope of a normal spring semester. The classes that will be offered in the summer are being worked out now. Some NASS detailers may be recruited into the Plebe summer detail. Upperclassmen will be brought in over the course of the summer to clear out rooms. Is this unconfirmed speculation? Yes. Is it the word going around from upperclassmen on down? Yes.

The Mother B Rumor Mill is at max output.

The usual patterns are broken. The Supe can organize the pieces to see how they fit the best. He can arrange virtual classes and on-Yard semesters as he sees fit, while maintaining accreditation. “Summer training’ can happen at times other than summer. He can ditch all kinds of stuff.

A true test of leadership, adaptivity, change management and innovative problem-solving.

I know the mids are worried the fall drill practice and parade schedule might be cancelled. 🤣🤣🤣

I will say this. My mid is ready for whatever happens. It is what it is and it is completely out of his control. God, I’m so grateful for our extra time together and, God, I pray that his journey in life will soon return to a more understandable path. I have 4 boys home now - 3 of which should not be here. I am trying to feed young men who lift weights and consume 5000 calories a day. This was not supposed to be this way. This is the war as we now we now know it and we fight on. My grocery bill is astronomical and the testosterone levels in our house are in the stratosphere.

Same. It’s a great lesson in goal setting and working toward them so you don’t end up as a ‘living in the basement of your parents house dweller’. Along the same lines as caring for young siblings is ‘good birth control’.

These people aren't meant to live hear at this stage of their lives. ESPECIALLY under quarantine orders. I feel like I’m throwing down thanksgiving dinners most week nights.....

My MIDN has not gained any weight. I am amazed because all he does is eat.
He's Brad Pitt in Ocean's Eleven. Every time I see him, he has a handful of food and is thoroughly invested in chewing.

The real heroes at USNA are the King Hall kitchen staff. Feeding 4,400 velociraptors every day has to be tiring.

When the stay at homes started, my sons ordered a bench and squat rack for the basement (we still had a weight set but got rid of the benches years ago when they had access to gyms and weight rooms). It’s hours of the sounds of clanging metal and grunts, interspersed with seismic anomalies that I think is a loaded barbell crashing through the cement slab. They mounted a pull up bar on the ceiling joists. Last night I grilled 20 chicken thighs, thinking we will have leftovers for a couple of nights. Silly me. The people who work and supervise King Hall are either geniuses or saints.

The Food Tales remind me of having 6 mids over for dinner, plus a visiting couple who are long-time friends. The friends are non-military and new to USNA and mids. They are both great cooks. I loaded up two industrial foil pans of 20+ pounds of brisket for a long aromatic braise in the lower oven. Same proportions applied for mac and cheese in the upper oven, large platter of crudités with bacon ranch, cheddar corn mini muffins ready to go into the oven when the brisket came out to rest. Friend said: “Good lord, we will have pounds of leftover meat tomorrow.” DH and I just smiled at each other. Friends were duly astonished as we cleaned the empty pans later with no need of leftover containers. I think part of it is it feels like home, it smells good, it’s hot and fresh and made from scratch, and there is no rush to get to the end of the meal to go somewhere else. The big stumper for the Friends was observing there was no real difference observing the men vs. women consumption, especially since we had some basketball players.

Known as CNN here. Cadet News Network.

DS read me an "official email" that to the best of my recollection said (in part) no cruises this summer, no Block 0 nor Block 1 (aside from detailers), extra summer school options (and maybe a different academic organization of classes in the fall, in case we're still having problems) and summer internships might run depending on who is offering it. It was a big long email, that came out like last week (from the Dant maybe? I am thinking?) But there was no info on when any mids are going back. Oh, and the starting date for the fall was pushed back a week. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'd ask my mid to remind me. but finals.

That sounds like an email my DS said he got. He doesn’t show me those things (nor would I expect him to).
