Heard something about USNA Mids occasionally getting the opportunity to sail aboard the Eagle a couple days ago. I know that the fall exchangers spend a week on it with the swabs, but I've never heard of them actually sailing on Eagle for longer than that. Anyone have insight on the matter?

Exchange cadets (from USMA, USNA and USAFA) are able to get underway during the summer. That's it. They have their YPs (which in my experience love practicing MOBs in front of Coast Guard cutters trying to line up on the Cape Cod Canal.)

Two of my DD classmates from Kings Point spent a few weeks on the Eagle this past April-May. So it is not unusual to find students from other academies on the Eagle, just very rare.

That would be separate from the usual exchange cadet trip before the fall semester. You can sometimes find KPers on normal CG cutters too.

We also had Sea Cadets and Canadian cadets onboard when I was a swab. Thought the Sea Cadet kid was a chief (because he told us to call him that). That lasted a day or two...not pretty for him.

The class of 2000 had about 20 Mids who did one of their training blocks on the Eagle. Year to year and depending of the emphasis of administrations training ideas anything is possible.

I knew about those exchange cadets who come on during the Swab Summer cruise because I had to help one of the Navy exchangers find his berthing area...and we had a couple of those sea scouts, a french guy, and some chinese people on Eagle for my week.

But when would those Navy mids come on Eagle? During the 3/c cruise or the swab summer cruises?

YPs...some of the girls who went on Healy instead of Eagle did those the last few weeks. Apparently they're not that fun. :shake:

From my class they went during 3/C cruise. But since then the Academy has since "re-vamped" summer cruises and they do their gray hull during 3/C summer, instead of 2/C summer like we did. So not sure if that plays into when they go. Navy does not do swab summer cruises.
