The Citadel defeats VMI 30-20 to win the annual Military Classic of the South and retain possession of the Silver Shako Trophy. Bulldogs improve to 10-0 and win outright Southern Conference Championship with berth in FCS playoffs.

It was a good game despite the outcome. VMI was for the 2d year in a row without their first string all SOCON QB Al Cobb. However they played a competitive game and it apparent to me that Coach Wachenheim is breathing life into the VMI football program - they look like they are engaged and hungry on the field so I have hope for the future. And congratulations to the Citadel who took the Southern Conference title and stands a good shot at going deep into the FCS playoffs. Most VMI folks will be rooting for the Bulldogs as you move on!

Yes - watched the game on ESPN3 - nice the Southern Conference is tied into this for a second season. VMI was exceptionally well prepared, good coaching, and the 3d and 4th Quarters they were the equal of the Bulldogs, especially with the support of the VMI Corps of Cadets. It was fun to watch the two Corps opposite each other. Congrats to both teams for a well played game.

we had a very enjoyable joint viewing party with the Citadel and VMI clubs in Arlington, Virginia even though the ESPN3 feed crashed at halftime, no sore losers in that bunch. Looked like a great atmosphere in Lexington and I agree with others that we should go back to playing at a neutral site like Charlotte so both Corps can attend.
