Early days yet - but progress is being made toward 3D mammography as the standard in covered preventive care for AD and retirees, and their families.

Great news! I've had 3D imaging the last 2 or 3 years at a civilian provider and I have Tricare (retired) insurance. I don't believe I've been charged the $100 copay they always warn me about, however. But maybe I've missed the charge? With a large family, we almost always get near are OOP max. But I can't complain as we have fantastic access with Tricare in our current location, which ironically, is not near a military installation. This has not always been the case for us, so we are very blessed to have this.

Great news indeed. My wife and I get great care at Walter Reed. She and my daughter have BRCA 1 gene mutation. My wife has had preventive surgery on the top and below and my daughter (civilian) just a few days ago had a total hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy. My daughter was on her own insurance 10 or so years ago when we found out she was positive. My wife and I took her to Lombardi cancer center at Georgetown for the bad news. We all three sat there in tears as the counselor/social worker said that in 10 years maybe there will be an option other than surgery. No, there isn't an option except for heavy surveillance which is still iffy. Fortunately my son and my wife's brother are both negative.

I have serious antipathy to that gene mutation. It’s taken too many people too early. At least we know way more than we did even 10 years ago.

I get regular email feeds from the VA, one is general items of interest to vets, one is for women veterans. This is where this article was listed. I often pick up info from those feeds long before I see it in any TRICARE or other communications. The VA had made massive strides in female vet healthcare in the last 10 years.
