How many years in addition to the 5 year ADSO for USMA grads in being selected for the Rhodes scholarship?

HAPPY NEW YEAR CADETS

Yes, they commission with their class and attend their graduate program as a LT.

Thank you. So TIG, TIS is counted for them? I mean once they finish their 2 year stint, they come out as LT ( promoted from 2LT).

I guess the only thing they miss temporarily is that while they are studying, their classmates are getting field experience. Are there any drawbacks?

Yes, all normal TIG/TIS counted.

The only drawbacks that can come is for some fields, they can end up crunched on time to get field experience prior to being promoted to O3. Most will attend their BOLC after their graduate program due to timing so you’re looking at potentially up to 2-3 years of not doing LT things prior to being promoted. This really isn’t any sort of issue though except for branches like aviation with flight school where it can be detrimental to flight time. Everywhere else, they’ll catch up in experience when they get to a line unit, they have their grad degree done with all of the prestige associated with attending one of these programs, and they’ll have more room for broadening programs as a senior O3 when their peers generally will compete for a graduate program of some sort through ACS or similar program.
