First this forum has a tremendous amount of great info and advice. My DS and us (his parents, really appreciate it).

My DS is doing well preparing his MOC nomination applications. As well as working hard on his USNA application, with the goal of having the majority complete by August.

I had a question regarding the military nomination categories.

Based on my service (24 years AD), he is eligible for the Presidential category. He is also eligible for the dependent of a disabled veteran category (SDVET) based on my rating (100%). After reviewing the nomination instructions, it appears he will only receive a nomination under the disabled category as the instructions state those eligible for SDVET won’t also receive a Presidential. It seems the big difference is the number of appointments allowed under each: Presidential, 100 per year (400 total); and SDVET 65 total.

I’m concerned if he applies for the SDVET category, then he may limit his chances since we have no idea if the 65 total appointments may already be filled or close to being filled from previous years.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations with this situation?

thanks in advance

I’ll also posted this in the USNA forum in a similar thread, sorry for the double tap.

One other difference is how many are eligible to apply under each category. I doubt those numbers are published but if I were a betting man I would bet more are eligible for a Presidential than an SDVET nomination. This guess, of course, is based on absolutely no data whatever.

Thank you. We had some of the same thoughts, and also have seen no data on SDVET numbers. We were hoping to generate some conversation to get a sense of the numbers. Again appreciate the help.

I don’t have stats on how many apply under the SDVET category, but USNA usually has around 800 or so who qualify for a Presidential. I think statistically speaking his odds are better with the SDVET nomination and why USNA points someone that direction.
