First, I want to say that I don’t think 18 year olds should be allowed to make life altering decisions like enlisting without any parental permission or guidance. We know the decision making center of their brains is not fully developed and I can’t imagine there aren’t many stories of regret at making a commitment they can’t back out of.
Anyway, a loved one is a Freshman, qualified for Minuteman Scholarship, joined Amy Reserves and is struggling. Is realizing ROTC and probably military are not a good fit. Was heavily recruited and influenced by mis-information. Is now realizing she is stuck and with no alternatives is even feeling suicidal. Are there any options for “dropping Out” without extreme, lifelong consequences?
