This question might be a bit of a twister. My son was given a Diagnosis of ADHD, OCD, Anxiety. He is 21, hasn't taken meds since 17. Passed AVSAB with a 87 score, SAT 1233, Passed physical part of MEPS, but DQ. He submitted a letter from prescribing medication and diagnosing phycologist that he no longer demonstrated all the diagnosis's. Another Independent phycologist rendered no ADHD, DOD phycologist stated misdiagnosis. No waiver: DQ. He is currently employed, finished college courses with As. Does anyone point what could have possibly happened? He is considering ROTC or National Guard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure Mr. Mullen will respond. However, if DQ'd from MEPS, ROTC is even tougher to pass. Good luck and hope Mr. Mullen provides you the advice you are looking for.

If I understand the OP, there is no current application submitted for ROTC. Assuming that, I am not sure there is anything actionable for Mr. Mullen to do. By that I mean the typical DODMERB forms that could be reviewed haven't been submitted.

As to any statement of misdiagnosis, my experiences have been that it is best to have the initial treating physician make the assessment that a person no longer has symptoms or conditions. Otherwise people can just shop around to find someone to say a person is healthy.

Understand that the military is currently under extreme pressure due to an epidemic of suicides and other mental health issues involving service members. Given this climate, any candidates who show MH issues are being DQ'd in favor of those with clear medical backgrounds.

My DS is currently a platoon leader for an Armored unit and this is a priority focus for all military leaders. My son has unfortunately had to deal with crisis management with soldiers both deployed and in garrison and it is the hardest part of his job. :(

Yes there are DoDMERB exceptions (waivers) granted, but it is clearly an uphill climb to get these for MH issues.

Good luck to your DS.

Yes, You are correct no application has been submitted to ROTC. I want to mention that the initial treating physician did write off any diagnosis he originally gave him. The independent phycologist assessment was done by a referral form current doctor.

This makes sense. I suggested to my son to continue to demonstrate good grades, responsible choices and when time comes he would have more history showing positive aptittudes in his life and education.

So I had a few minutes while in between meetings. There is another thread with posts from the OP here. The other posts refer to a daughter.....and this one refers to a son. Similar issues. Coincidence or???

21 YR OLD APPLICANT: If you’d like, you may send me an email: lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil; provide complete name and last 4 SSN; provide the text of your Parent's posting above to YOUR email. The subject line of the email should be “Isasnow- SAF =Misdiagnosed and asking for advise.“ Do NOT embed links in your email as I will not be able to view those.

GWU PNS, as always, is spot on. If there is no ROTC application, there can be no medical status or waiver issued, but, with a dialogue, I may be able to assist. :wiggle:

Yes, both my kiddos got misdiagnosed. I have a double situation. I apologize for the confusion.

Hmmmmmm. You must see lousy Docs, if there were that many misdiagnoses. Will the Docs attest to their misdiagnoses??? Or, is it that you Mom...believe they were misdiagnosed?

Yes, I agree lousy doctor. At no time did he object to say "above smart kiddos." I already have one letter from the same doctor with updated assessment stating son no longer demenstrate diagnosis given. The misdiagnosis was from DODMERB Phycologist. Basically, I taught my kiddos beyond what is taught at school for their age, giving them a head start. They would loose attention from knowing material and teacher felt they needed to be evaluated for a learning disability and same doctor didn't contradict teacher but was happy to convince me to start treating my kids or they could have life consequences as they got older if not treated.

We’ll, if the applicants contact me as I offered, I’ll reply tomorrow
