So I was an idiot (own words) to think I'd never regret not doing my rated physical at USAFA. I've always seemed to have a different path than others who end up on the same road though. So my situation is below. If any cadets are at USAFA reading this, do the rated physical! They will not force you to put in for a rated position.

2018 grad who went to tech school and got my dream base. Aviano AB, Italy! The F-16's fly everyday here and it brings me back to the Air Show at Scott AFB that was a big reason I applied through the LEAD program. Needless to say, I'm now loving my location and this great opportunity that I've been given to experience USAFE and travel. Also obvious is that I'm wanting to get everything together for a rated package and apply to be sent from this great location to pilot training. I just turned 27 and by the time everything is done, I may need a waiver for the 28 and 1 month age limit to go to pilot training.

Still in-processing here, and I'm going to Medical on Friday and intend to ask how to start that process while I'm there. If you have advice or know a good thread for crossing over to a rated AFSC, please let me know. I couldn't find a related thread to this. Thanks.

If you have any desire to dm or advise on other mediums using social media or phone, please message me and I'll be happy to share my information there.

I wanted to point out the USAFA Careers & networking page on facebook (a closed group for all USAFA grads to network and share professional advice). I believe it has had several posts on this topic. Not sure what kind of replies they have recieved, but it is probably worth looking if you haven't yet.

If you need help finding it, DM your email and I can send you an invite.

I would suggest going on http://www.flyingsquadron.com/forums/
this website has more details on what goes on because its made up of Air Force pilots and those who want to become pilots. Just becareful as they arent exactly patient people and seem to be thin skin and dont like it when you disagree with their opinion. However, they have great info for people who want to be AD pilots, Air Force officers who want to be pilots and people who want to be pilots in the National Guard and Reserves

Yeah, I've poked around over at FlyingSquadron and Humey is right about them knowing everything about AD and also (especially) about being careful. Read a *lot* before you open your mouth, as those guys have zero tolerance for much of anything short of informed questions followed by Thank You Sir. Or, you know, you could just kind of plunge in and provide a great deal of mirth for the rest of the world.

Good luck if you apply while you’re on AD, because you’ll need it. The AF makes it complicated as hell for AD guys to apply compared to when you’re in your commissioning source. Letters of recommendation, endorsements from the SQ/CC & WG/CC, and you’ll need above average PCSM scores if you even want a chance at acceptance, especially for pilot. If you head over to FlyingSquadron, you’ll see people who are current rated officers talking about the fact that they still couldn’t get picked up for pilot, even with all the flight training they’ve already received. I can only assume that AFPC figures they can get all the pilots they need from fresh commissionees, and that doing the leg work to transfer folks over from other AFSC’s is more trouble than it’s worth. Personally, I’m waiting till my ADSC with the Air Force expires and then I’m taking my chances to fly with another branch.
