mixtape

The USAFA rap kid was in my basic flight. Needless to say, he was like Private Pyle. Out of shape, selfish, unprofessional, and completely unprepared for BCT. He was out-processed on A-Day.

I was referring to proudofmyboy's post. I'm assuming they are a parent and not using "boy" as slang. In my opinion, it gave off a very Holier Than Thou vibe. But my opinion isn't always fact, unfortunately.

Sorry if I came off cheekier than intended.

Wish you would have read and understood all of the comments made by the parents, current, past military, and in my case USN Retired posters. No one, including myself have a Holier Than Tho attitude. We all have made mistakes. We wanted to make sure that this young man (whose package can easily be identified because of previous posts) has a clear understanding that he was seriously going down the wrong road. A reality check now is much better than one later. In addition to earning a Commission through an Enlisted Commissioning program, I am proud of my boy. Please do not disrespect me or my screen name. When a young person posts questions of this nature, as I have stated before, it is best not to tap dance around the issue. No one here needs to make their kids look good at the expense of others. Our kids accomplishments stand on their own for what they did. It is tough to be a teen today. Way too many pressures. I get it. I would not want to be in their shoes. So, if you are a candidate, I wish you the best of luck. It is a tough road, but one worth working hard for.

Sir/Ma'am

I would like to preface by saying I apologize for any offense taken. It was not my intention to disrespect either you or your son. Truly earning a Commission through an ECP is no small feat, and I respect your and your son's contribution to our Armed Forces. It also appears that a little of the intended humor of my post was lost through the keyboard, apologies. My comments come mostly from previous experience with this site. I am in the Class of 2019 and I had perused this site last year during my own application process. I saw lots of parental...let's use the word 'flexing'...regarding their children. I was simply pointing out that just because one does not fit the stereotypical Christian Conservative (READ "no fire mixtapes") persona it doesn't automatically ruin their chances of acceptance. However, if you read the rest of what I wrote you will see that we largely agree. I was merely presenting my admittedly limited knowledge and experience, knowledge and experience that would point to a 'fire mixtape' not being an automatic deal breaker in SA admissions.

That being said, I'd like to add that disparaging women or any other minority group in today's military environment is, in addition to being rude, a career limiter, if not outright ender. I can't speak for the Operational AF or any other branches, but getting that sort of thing on your record at USAFA is going to severely limit your options.

The USAFA rap guy was actually a really good person, people just overlooked him because of the rap that he came up with. Take that as an example OP. Don't have yourself judged badly before you even get the chance to step foot on campus.

Thanks for your reply...All is good..I think we all want to help out current and future candidates..each in our own way..Sometimes generational differences cause us to misinterpret each others comments..I have seen quite a lot of "helo parents", roger, understand. Sometimes what we think is the right think to say, is taken wrong...Back to engage brain before mouth...maybe I will run future comments past my "boy" before I day in June...Best of luck...Navy Sends..

I really doubt googleing applicants' names is a part of the admissions process. Have fun now (because it gets a little harder once you're there), don't be too big of an idiot, and make sure it's straight fire. If anything it'll just become an easy excuse for your fellow cadets to blow you sh*t.
