Any parents planning on attending our cadets cresting ceremony & parade on Friday August 29th? We would be coming from CT so wanting to see what other parents are thinking!

Hi Wesurf2. We are coming from NJ. Our daughter is self-prep hoping for USCGA next year. We already have the hotel reserved for parents weekend in October, but we just aren't sure about going back a mere few days after drop-off.

Hi our daughter is self-prep for USCGA as well. Thanks for reply, we are feeling the same way with coming from CT driving her down then going back few weeks later. We will be there for parents weekend as well.

As much as would like to attend the cresting ceremony we will be unable to attend. We are in IN and it's an 11 hour drive one-way to MMI and we cannot take our daughter out of school. We plan to be back for parents weekend.

Thank you for reply! I agree it will be difficult to get back for ceremony that quickly after dropping our cadets few weeks before then driving back. Looking forward to meeting everyone parent weekend!

With our schedule it is too difficult to get back that soon. We were able to get time off for parents weekend. DS will be flown home for Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks.

It seems that a few of us are in the same boat. We have a 16 hour drive to get to Marion. Reasonable flights are difficult to find. We too are looking at bringing DD there, attending parents weekend and flying DD back for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We too are looking forward to meeting everyone and getting our DD settled in and comfortable before we have to return to NJ.

Long, 12 hour drive from Miami, but I am going to try to make it. DS's 18th birthday is on the 30th. Where can I find more info on the creating ceremony? What time?

Classes that day end at 1155, with a lunch formation at noon. The Cresting Ceremony will start around 1:30 pm in the gym. There will be a parade afterward, around 3 pm, followed by retreat (flag lowering). Those cadets not scheduled for duty or watches will be released for liberty after retreat.

If you can't do both Parents weekend is a much better event.

Agreed. I didn't go last year for DS, didn't this year for DD, won't next year for DS2, lol! BUT I am not missing PW- it's pretty fun. Marion is a quirky little town, but I really enjoy my time there. This year I will be spending more time in AL and I am really looking forward to it!
