What are some good questions to ask a MOC committee interview panel/interviewer if it’s a complete civilian panel with no ties to the academy/the military? I know that if people on the panel are parents or former grads, there are plenty of questions to ask. Wondering what insightful questions I could ask someone who is simply just an interviewer for the MOC.

Thank you.

Why ask any? They will have no answers for you. They are there to evaluate and rank the applicants. They have no control over the academy process, and probably know little about it.

In general, I know it’s always good to have questions to ask at any interview. Was just wondering what people have done in the past in this situation.

Try thinking about parents of SA grads and their experience.

What would you sincerely like to know from them?

There are your questions to ask!

Don't try to concoct a "clever" question. Sincerity and integrity are far more important. These folks are on the panel because of their ability to see through any balderdash.

Good luck!

At my son's MOC interview, they did ask this as the final question, "What questions do you have for us?" He asked if they saw an interest in the big three academies as a detriment to his package - rather than a specific interest in one. I think it's good to be prepared with something to ask them - much like you would in a job interview.

I asked the Academy grads, what were their deciding factors when they chose an academy? Also what is one piece of advise for beast/plebe summer?

Part of preparing for any interview is to think about what you might be asked and how to answer. You may be asked if you have any questions of the interviewers, so that is simply part of good preparation. However, I would not ask them an important sounding question just to try to impress the interviewers. Ask something that is meaningful to you or relates to something that came up during the interview to show you are engaged in the discussion.

My DS asked them two questions, and his last one was: "What do you think is my best qualifying attribute as a candidate?"

He said he wanted to "end with a question that was sure to return a positive answer" and leave them with a positive feeling about him after he left the room.
Something like that isn't going to put you over the top, but it can be the icing on the cake.

My son had his interview last week. He asked if they had an estimate of when they will be making their selections, asked if the board will be designating a principal nominee and asked if they will be notifying candidates of their decisions by email, phone call or letter. (He's a reapplicant away at school so needed to know if mom needs to be stalking the mail box!)
