MOC nomination announcement timeline?

I have a quick question. DD has submitted her application to her MOC, the deadline has now passed, and all interviews have been completed. There is nothing on the MOC's website that gives a date for when nomination decisions come out. Is there some way to figure out what this MOC's past timing is (other than calling the MOC office)? Meaning, does anyone informally keep track of when different districts find out?

On this website, I looked at the 2021 appointment threads to see last year's CA MOC appointment dates, however; CA has so many MOCs that it's hard to figure much out from that alone.

I am not aware of any.

Slates are not due until the end of January, so you might wait until then but, of course, that's worse case. If your Congressman coordinates with Senators then their interview and nomination process is on a different track, and you'll need to wait until that completes. It's still early in the process. Patience is the order of the day.

You can go to their general website, and look at their press releases. If they are one to publish their slate, you can get a general idea from backing into it that way. Or Googling. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s a set in stone date. They can do whatever they want. But it may be a way of getting an idea.

Our current senators publish their slates. Our congress person does not.

I am not clear from your post whether your daughter had an interview or not. Everyone submitting an application won't necessarily be interviewed as the MOC NOM team may narrow down the list based on whatever criteria they are using. If she did have an interview, you will need to wait until the NOM results are released.

All SA's suggest you apply for every available NOM source which gives the SA more flexibility on where they eventually charge the NOM. Hopefully, your daughter applied to every NOM source for which she is eligible.

Thank you all. Yes, my DD interviewed with the MOC's team. She has also applied to both senators, and will apply for the VP as well. She is 3Q and has an LOA, so hopefully a nom will come through.
Is there a reason she should apply for the VP now vs. later? To give the SA more flexibility--is that something she should take care of now? We were waiting for the MOC results but if I'm reading @time2 correctly, maybe she should get on it now. Would appreciate advice.

Just get it done, one more thing off the list. Doesn’t mean anything will happen faster or earlier.

And - be prepared for something as simple and unheralded as a nomination showing up in a SA portal with no other announcement, no personal notification or a later press release. Elected officials don’t usually miss an opportunity for a “feel good” story, but for both nom slates AND appointments, sometimes this happens.

For appointments, elected officials are informed some period of time (it seems to be 48-72 hours) before the applicant portal is updated/applicant informed, so they can call the appointee if they wish. Sometimes they call - and sometimes you hear a crazed yell from a bedroom and the applicant has just seen the offer of appointment in the portal with no call from anyone.

Elected officials often gather up all the appointees for their area and “take credit” for them in press releases/photo ops. Especially fun for appointees with service-related noms but who didn’t make the official’s slate - say cheese!

How long does it typically take for a USNA appointment to be made on a principal nomination, assuming a a candidate is 3Q?

Anytime between now and April.

But usually shorter. There is no way of telling. Imagine the volume of applications in various stages - thousands. Imagine the Admissions staff - not thousands, hundreds or even dozens and dozens. Imagine the slates that have to be cleared. Imagine the portals to be updated. Imagine the noms to be puzzle-pieced into place with corresponding appointments.

So…tend the alternate plans, focus on what you can control, finish this year strong, PT to bleed off stress, enjoy family and friends.

USNA typically does not inform candidates of their 3Q status so it isn't something you can assume on your own. Not sure which SA's those asking the questions on this thread have applied to.

MOCs typically call their nominees anytime between November and January. Nominations are all due for submission on January 31st. Appointment notification from USNA varies. The board meets weekly and typically works through the states one at time to resolve slates, in no particular order. Last year NC was one of the very last, so my son did not find out until mid-April. If you look at last year’s appointment thread, you’ll see the states listed in order they were notified (after presidential and ROTC).

I did my interview on Saturday and have already had my nomination show up in my portal. I'm taking that as a good sign.
It's a good sign for the Nomination process. Assuming USNA, its still difficult to get appointed. Approximately 5,000 + nominations occur for each DOD Service Academy. Only about 1,200 per class get appointed. Good luck-good sign. Continue to tend Plan B & C.
