There is something substantive about breaking out the heavyweight personalized correspondence cards (yes, of course they are hand-bordered in navy and gold, with a fouled anchor motif), using my Waterman rollerball and taking time to write a note. In cursive, if I know the recipient can read it. It just feels good in the hand, both to send and receive. It takes time to do, and prepare for sending, and that in itself is part of the positive weight of the action. It takes thought and time, and is not just another email in the Inbox, though that has its place.
I also believe it’s useful to be adept in many channels of communication, whatever suits the occasion.
