Most Recent-Jan 12-NROTC Board

Not us - my son just submitted an after-the-fact Essay B, so I'm hoping maybe he wasn't up in front of the board yet, though.

The waiting is. killing. me.

Has anyone gotten the good word from this most recent board?

There were a couple of people on another thread that had DODMERB status changes indicating NROTC Scholarship awards a few days after the last board date....my daughter sent in a request to change school choices via email a few days before the board and we saw the choices change on the NROTC status page a few days after the board, but her status still says "No Decision". I am still not sure if she's been seen by the board yet...it would seem like she's been waiting long enough but who knows...

I saw that also where a couple were awarded scholarships. Other than the 2 who post here I havent read about anyone else getting one yet. Maybe better news in the next 2 weeks since another board will meet Tues.

My son isn't even at the point where the schools are showing up on the status page. Grrrrr!

An FYI, for what it is worth:
We met briefly today with the PMS at my son's #1 school choice. While we were there, he ran a report which lists all of the scholarship recipients for that school. My son's name was not on the list, and then he told us only the people who went before the October board have been awarded so far. He said they were expecting to hear about the December board by next week.

So I guess that is encouraging news for those of us still waiting to hear!!

Know of one of my USNA candidates who did not complete NROTC application until the first week of December. He was notified this past week that he received a scholarship offer to MIT for Tier I engineering.
Have candidates whose applications were complete in late September who have heard nothing.
This year's cycle is making no sense to me???

My son was one of those who received notification just after the board met on 12 Jan. All of his scholarship materials were finally submitted in early November, so he could not have been chosen on the October board (had to wait on the officer interview). Our first clue that something was "amiss" was when we noticed that his Selection Status changed from "All stuff received... blah blah blah" with the colleges and address below, to a blank. The lines between "Selection Status and "Additional Information" were gone, but everything else on the page remained. That was about 2 days before the board, and I believe "singaporemom" and her son experienced the same thing. The day after the board I checked DoDMERB (my son did not apply to a service academy but I was checking anyway) and lo and behold he had an account where one had never existed before. It stated that an offer was extended on 12 Jan. I believe that the first 2 entities notified of his scholarship were DoDMERB and the receiving NROTC unit. I mention the NROTC unit because we received a snail mail letter from the Unit Commander on 16 Jan. That was our timetable. I can only surmise that his award came from the 12 Jan board, but this is a mysterious process, so it's only a guess. Sorry to be so long winded but I know I was interested in all the information I could get. The whole thing is still a bit surreal, we just received all the medical paperwork today, and so begin the doctor appointments.

Thanks for the info, any and all is appreciated. You are quite right is saying it is a mysterious process.

For some reason a week or so ago my status page changed from the still being processed message to the page with all my info the a few days later back to the processing message. talk abt being confused!! i submitted my app by November 10. I hate waiting

Lesrunmore's correct, my son's status followed that timeframe. He has a DoDMERB account from SA application, so 'Offer Extended' showed up under NROTC (but Notre Dame unit did not appear). Letter followed from unit that week. Admissions letter? Why can't THAT come as quickly???!!!

My son also had his status change on Dodmerb first just after the board met, then a letter from Dodmerb stating he was unrestricted line qualified for NROTC, then we checked the NROTC website that showed the Congratulations message. Package arrived a few days later. His package was complete in October, but after the October board met. I don't know if he was actually selected during the December board or the January board.

and so begin the doctor appointments.

Word of advice...DON'T BE TOOO FORTHCOMING IN THIS, IT WILL KILL YOU. 80% of candidates are disqualified by dodmerb, not saying lie of course, but unless you have been DEFINITIVELY diagnosed with something on their list, do not talk about your med history too much. I gave my entire life medical story and I'm paying for it dearly (even though there is nothing wrong with me). A friend who is training to be a RIO told me "when talking to the flight surgeon, you say absolutely NOTHING!"-same applies here :thumb:

I think usnahopeful2014 is saying 80% of candidates who actually are disqualified are DQ'd because of troubles with DoDMeRB.

My regional commander told me, 80% of those that apply to an SA or get a scholarship will be officially dq'd by dodmerb and then have to send in remedial information/do remedial appointments and/or apply for a waiver. The medical process was so much better when medical qualification was determined by a medical professional of the given branch you are applying for. Dodmerb is realllllly uptight, in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure there is a difference between getting DQed and remedial. I had a remedial, but I never got DQed or had to get a waiver.

Even taking in remedials, that seems like a super high number...
