Reading about this I was wondering... If one becomes medically disqualified in their second or third year of being contracted, are they obligated to pay back the money from a ROTC scholarship?

Typically not, unless perhaps there was deliberate misleading data submitted or other malfeasance.

So a quick update- my packet was in the queue for over 30 days so it just got sent back to my ROTC program's HR and she resubmitted it earlier this week. She said she thinks it may move faster this time now that it's been resubmitted, but I guess time will tell.
I'm going back to see my doctor this Friday to get another letter, but he really doesn't think i should continue in the army. I've kind of accepted that I'm probably going to get disqualified because having a blood clotting defect simply isn't practical.

Ok, it sounds like you've made up your mind. Good luck.

Hi,
I'm currently an MS3 at my university. I'm an SMP drilling cadet which was part of my rotc minuteman scholarship and I was just diagnosed with Factor V Leiden, a blood clotting disorder.
I turned my paperwork in on January 16th so it's been about 6 weeks since submitting my paperwork to cadet command. Am I going to get medically disqualified? I'm wondering why it's taking so long to hear back.
My ROTC cadre think I am going to be medically dropped, but I'm nervous and don't know what to think. I was hoping someone on here would have been in a similar situation as me.
I know it’s been a while since you posted, I’d be curious to hear how this played out for you.
Im an Army reserve MAJ with a history of blood clots and PE. I am heterozygous Factor V. Standard treatment after 1 blood clot is anticoagulants for 3-6 months, second clot 6-12 months, after that they really push you to be on anticoagulants for life. I started lifetime anticoagulation in 2013. Never had an issue until 2018, when I got not notice that I was being MED boarded out. I went off anticoagulants, got a letter from my doctor verifying that I had stopped (though it was against his advice). Army seems to have bought off on that, I’m supposed to go to Kuwait this fall

Hi Allison, I am also curious as to what the outcome was? I am a new RN BSN and I am wanting to join the Navy Nurse Corps but I also have heterozygous factor V leiden. If your medical condition still allowed you to be in the military it would give me hope that maybe I wouldn't be disqualified if I try to join.

The OP probably won't be answering as they have not logged into the forum since April 2, 2019.
