Hello all,

I am currently an MSII cadet and am looking at summer training opportunities. I have already applied for CULP (no preference) and think I have a decent shot of getting it. If this falls through, or even if I get accepted, I am wondering about other ROTC summer opportunities.

My original plan was CULP and CIET but after talking to my MS instructor he said I most likely don't need to go to CIET, as I have been in the program for 2 years now and he feels confident in my abilities that he won't have to send me. There's one airborne slot for my battalion which I'm shooting for, but I will most likely not get it.

My question is, what other opportunities would you all think I have a shot at this upcoming summer as a rising MSIII? Thank you.

Just curious, what college do you attend and how big is the ROTC detachment?

I'm a scholarship applicant and I'm trying to choose schools. Sorry I can't answer your question.

I could be wrong, but I believe my ROO said that CIET is required for all cadets going into the advanced course. Like I said though, I could be wrong.

This is only true if a cadet has joined AROTC late (sophomore e.g.) and has not completed the MS 1 and MS 2 programs. CIET or basic camp is intended to "catch up" these cadets so they can be eligible for the advanced course.

I thought CIET was required for all contracted cadets either summer between MSI-MSII year or summer between MSII-MSIII year, with the only exception being cadets that successfully completed either Army Basic Training or OSUT?

DS was a 4 yr national winner. First summer CULP, second summer CIET, last summer CLC. CIET and CLC are mandatory to commission to the best of my knowledge.

This is posted on a Army ROTC site at Old Dominion University regarding CIET:

CIET
Cadets take part in the Cadet Initial Entry Training between Freshmen and Sophomore Year or between Sophomore and Junior Year. This course, made up of four phases, allows Cadets to "catch up" to those who joined in their freshman or sophomore years. The first phase introduces Cadets to the Army and prepares them for the next three phases consisting of team building, leadership development and Field Training Exercises.

My son is a 4 year scholarship winner who did not have to attend CIET. He did attend CULP after his MSI year. YMMV

From my understanding CIET was not required in past years, but now is "basic camp". Basic camp is required as a commissioning requirement from classes of 2019 and up.
I could be wrong but this is what our cadre told us.
As we know the army changes ever year so I wouldn't be surprised if this info has changed.

Thought CIET was required as well.

DS is an MSII 3.5 year scholarship recipient and was told by his cadre that he did not need to attend CIET.

He is ranked in the top quartile of his battalion, for what it's worth.

He has applied for CULP and will apply for Airborne and Air Assault for this summer. Slots are tough to get, though.

Mine is a 3yr was supposed to go this summer but the # of slots for his school were cut so he was taken off the list.

only one person from my unit has attended ciet. She joined the program her junior year of college, so it lines up.

For things you can do this coming summer as a rising msIII: CULP, many schools are given airborne/air assault spots, you can request Sapper/CDQC from brigade, I have heard you can walk on to mountaineering or submit a packet to brigade for a physical slot, CTLT (shadowing an officer), Robin Sage (no idea how you would apply for this), and if you're on ranger challenge and your team does well you can go to Sandhurst.

Lots of choices, lots of opportunity. Best of luck.
