I'm planning on getting DS a nice multi-tool for a graduation gift so he has it for Beast. I've been looking at the Leatherman MUT but I'm curious if other cadets/grads care to chime in on their preferred multi-tool. Please let me know!

Do a nice stainless steel Gerber instead of a Leatherman IMHO. Also might want to check as it might be against the rules to bring non-issued items (especially something like a knife) to Beast. Even if he can't use it right away, eventually he'll get endless use out of it.

There have been a couple of long and recent threads about multi tools. Suggest you use the search function above to find then. They were rather comprehensive. 😉

If you want to get your cadet a Leatherman for a graduation gift, that is awesome. A Leatherman is nice (I have a couple). My cadet was happy with the less expensive Gerber. Multi-tools have a tendency to go MIA in the field. New cadets, have a lot of new experiences -- mix with some sleep deprivation -- thrown at them. Sometimes the brain goes into overload and items get lost. 😂

Gerber is best for people who don't work in environmentally controlled conditions. Leatherman simply has fallen behind in quality and function IMHO. I'll defer to the SOF community, however, as my observations are anecdotal.

So long as a knife's blade is under 3.5", they can possess and use them during CBT. I strongly recommend having a good foldable pocket knife--a multitool isn't super necessary for CBT but is nice to have. Most of what you'll be using a multitool for here is the blade and it's more convenient IMO to have a more quickly deployable knife.
