My son went for his congressional interview and was told, if he received a nomination, it would be for 1 service academy, even though he was applying to all 4. Much to our surprise and delight, we received a phone message stating he received nominations to all 4! How will this increase his chances of receiving an appointment ? Unprecedented ?

Did your DS applied to all SAs? If not, getting nomiantions to other SAs won't increase his chance to which ever SA he is applying to.

This might or might not apply to your DS, but some MOCs nominate to just give out nomination or nominate to other SAs if the board thinks the applicant's chance to his first choice is weak.

In general, in MD, Navy is more competitive than West Point, AFA, or Merchant Marine. So if a kid is #5 for Navy within the Congressional district, this kid could be #1 or #2 for other SAs.
