I live in Pullman, Washington and I am a candidate for the USAFA.

Here's some of my info:
CFA: Maxed out in-
  • Shuttle Run
  • Pull-ups
  • Push-ups
  • Sit-ups
Above average in the basketball throw and a 6:11 on the mile

Scores: 1500 on the SAT (730 on English, 770 on math)

GPA:3.7

Congressional Nomination

Additional info: Type 1 scholarship from the AFROTC. Had various community programs and leadership programs.

But as you can see from the title, I have a medical disqualification due to a history of instability on my left shoulder, but I received surgery on September 14th and now am fully cleared for all activities.

Based on these circumstances, what do you guys expect my chance of acceptance is?

Thank you so much.

In my opinion, your chances of acceptance is at the ceiling right now. Don't doubt yourself and don't let that DQ mess with your mind. You gave your best and you have stellar SAT scores and CFA scores. USAFA will tell you when you're disqualified. I don't think anybody in the forums know if you're going to get disqualified unless they're your admissions officer.

Keep that application in. You should be good to go! Good luck!

I am in the same boat...a little better GPA (4.16) and math part of SAT (790), but didn't do that good on the mile run. Plus captain of the team, 4-year letterman, 500+ community service hours. But - DQed for instability of my right shoulder (surgery in August 2018).
Did you get any correspondence from Department of the Airforce regarding a request for a medical waiver from your behalf?

I did not. did you?

Wonkman, did HQ AFROTC give you a waiver for your type 1?

Pima, if he’s in the same plane as I am, I received my Type 1 and am currently pending a waiver. I received my waiver and appointment for the Academy before they started the medical for the AFROTC scholarship.

I did in the middle of January, but no movement since then... Still DQ on DoDMERB and USAFA site.

I’m on the exact same boat. My portal states that it’s pending two waivers: one for the academy and one for ROTC and since I got accepted for a type 1, I’m hoping that the ROTC will grant me a waiver and the Academy can use it as theirs essentially and grant me an appointment as the USAFA is my plan A

I wasn't smart enough when I applied - and applied only to USAFA... no ROTC, no nothing!

DS is right there with all of you. Medical DQ. 1500 SAT. Salutatorian. 3 sport letterman, Falcon Visitation Experience Invitee, nomination. No appointment. He emailed his admissions counselor and her response was generic and the same as her response 6 weeks ago. He was awarded 4 year NROTC scholarship to Texas A&M. He will need a waiver for that also. He's also CPR for USNA, but no nom for that one. So stressful.

JSYK, the SA will not ‘use the ROTC waiver’. They are two separate systems. One may grant a waiver, while the other may not. Or they may both. It’s up to each waiver authority to decide what waivers will be requested. Or not. Wishing you waivers!!
