I have been interested in West Point since I was in junior high school and now that im at the point of applying, I am interested in the response you might have for what my chances of being appointed are.

A little about me, I am a 4-year football letter (2-year team captain), 3 year track letter (2 year team captain), I lettered and was the captain of my wrestling team, and I hold all my schools weight/powerlifting records. I scored a 27 on my ACT and a 1790 on my SAT (1190 combined). I hold a 3.5/4.0 GPA and am in a private school that voids class rank, but take all AP and Honors classes. I am also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). I am a delegate on my schools services board for outside community projects that the school sponsers. I will be graduating Distinguished on academic and foreign language.

Outside school I am the lead teen attorney for my county and an intern to two different judges in my county. I have received the Gold National Presidential Services Award and been featured in my Districts Newsletter for garnishing awards within Teen Court as well as a statewide recognition of being the lead attorney at a state competition. I was a Boys State delegate and elected as a District Attorney at Boys State.

If I receive a nomination from my state rep. (Ralph Hall), which I am anticipating upon interning for his campaign office, what are my chances with the resume listed of getting into West Point?

Also, I am applying for a 4-year ROTC scholarship to take to either VMI or The Citadel with me as a back up plan. Any insight on how I compare for that? Frankly to anyone reading, I want to serve my country as best as I can, in the leadership capacity that God has granted me. My goal is to become a commisioned officer in the Army and hopefully soon after become an Army Ranger in the 75th. Thank you all for your insight, it is much appreciated!

You have a 27.3% chance.

Totally kidding. No one here can give you a definite answer

However, we can offer advice. You seem to be strong in your athletics and ECs but retake those standardized tests. You're about par or sub-par in those areas based on recent class profiles. (http://www.usma.edu/Class/2014/profile.asp)

Since your school doesn't rank, a lot of the academic portion of your WCS will be based off of your standardized test scores. Really focus on raising them.

Another thing to focus on is what congressional district you'll be applying from. Since at least one person from each district will be offered an appointment, being in a low-competition district could be quite the boon. Otherwise, it will make things more difficult. Try and find out how competitive your region is.

Otherwise, complete your application early and show constant motivation and I'm sure you'll be just fine. :thumb:

Also, look at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. You can earn a commission in the United States Army just like you would at West Point. So definitely check it out! I would say you have a good chance if getting into USMA or USMMA because of your wide range of extra curriculars but need to get your SAT/ACT scores up.

I appreciate the insight. Im really counting on the May ACT results tomorrow to see if I did any better than a 27. If not, my liason told me I should land the 4 year ROTC scholarship which id then take to The Citadel more than likely. The USMMA I have not looked into much at all, as VMI or The Citadels ROTC have been my back up plans. Would you say that that is a legitimate back up given my re pour? How does a 4 year scholarship fare with an appointment into the Merchant Marine Academy?
