My son has 3.0 diopter in one eye. USMA requested a waiver. Last week DS portal updated with these codes:

R152.02 Obtain a dilated fundoscopic exam REQUIRES A PHYSICIAN'S APPOINTMENT:
PROVIDER INSTRUCTIONS: Please obtain a NEW ophthalmological evaluation by an optometrist or
ophthalmologist to include a dilated fundoscopic examination to rule out underlying ocular pathology
such as the presence of any hemorrhage, exudates, scars, opacities, and degeneration of the retina. An
optometrist or ophthalmologist may perform this evaluation. APPLICANT ONLY INSTRUCTIONS:
CAUTION NOTICE: Eye drops used for this special test cause the eyes to have difficulty focusing as well
as light sensitivity for a period of 4-8 hours. You are advised to have a pair of sunglasses with you for the
examination and arrange for someone to drive you home.
R152.35 Obtain a corneal topography exam with a written interpretation and the original color
topography results REQUIRES A PHYSICIAN'S APPOINTMENT: Please obtain a NEW evaluation by an
optometrist or ophthalmologist for a corneal topography examination. Please ensure the examination
includes a written interpretation, report, and the original color topography results.

We called the person handling the file and she says that we should wait until we receive a letter in the mail before scheduling any test?

Is this correct? I just don't want to delay in scheduling the tests if I can get them done right away.

Thanks in advance.

Yes - don't go to the exam without the letter. This is the official 'To-do list' for the examiner.

No - don't wait to schedule an exam if appointment book is full. My DS' remedial was close to Xmas so I booked a Dr's apt 2 weeks out; as luck would have it the letter arrived just a couple days ahead of time. If you can get an eye exam in 2-3 days' time just wait but I would call your opthamologist and ask when first available apt is for the corneal topo and dilation.

DoDMETS (concorde) will assign a doctor. If you use the assigned physician there is no charge for the examination. With permission, you can use your own physician, but you are responsible for the costs. Check your DoDMETS portal and see if a physician has been assigned, or call them. Schedule an appointment with your eye doctor if you would like, but see above. You can always cancel the appointment. But, wait for the letter before you go to the doctor.

I also had to do the R152.35. Anxious to complete the process, I scheduled my own exam and just had my doctor email me my results. As stated, Make sure the topography is In color. Some places might not have the capability to send them in color. I had to contact different offices and ask if they

1. Had the equipment to complete the exams

2. Were capable of sending the topography in color.

Fortunately, I found an office who answered yes to both those questions. I recently sent in my results and i'm Currently waiting for any status changes.

Good luck on everything !!

Thank you. All this is new to me.

Thanks for the response

My advice is if you can afford the visit with a doctor of your choice, do it that way. The successful completion of this remedial is obviously really important to you. You want someone handling this visit you feel comfortable with. If at all possible, find an Army doctor if you can. They know the language and know the process you are navigating.

Perhaps most importantly you can speed up the process !! Get an appt. and send back the results faster with a familiar Dr. vs. wondering if the Govt. contractor did or not . . .

My DD needed R152.02 done for the USNA waiver (really high diopter). Even after the DoDMERB was updated, Concord said that they didn't get the authorization. After waiting for over a week and making repeated calls to Concord, someone from Concord finally called DoDMERB while putting my DD on hold. DD was able to make an appointment. We never did get the letter.... Sometimes there are glitches and sometimes squeaky wheel gets greased.

My DS says his DODMETS updated and a letter is on its way. The option to schedule with their doctors is available as well.

Ok just returned from our doctor. Everything looks great he says. So we have to submit all of the documents to DODMERB. Does anyone have an idea how quick the response will be once they receive it.

My son called his DoDMETS rep and she said she received everything and she forwarded it all back to USMA.

And now we wait. Its kinda like when you are at the doctor's office in the big waiting room and then they call your name and now you are in the examination room waiting to be seen.
