I sent it to him but he never filled it out and I am currently unable to contact him until I get back to school :<

I guess what I'm really trying to ask, how long does my 12th grade English teacher has to know me before they can fill out that evaluation?

Why do you need to use your twelvth grade English teacher? Don't they specifically ask for 11th grade? Why do you think they do that? Obviously they want the teacher to know you. If by "leaving" you mean the teacher left the district or something than you should call admissions to determine how to proceed. Attention to detail is important.

If the reason for using another teacher is that you can't get the eval done until school starts back up, then simply wait. There is no reason the teacher evaluation needs to be in so soon. There is no advantage to being done early unless you walk on water.... and then it won't matter if you're early anyway because you'll be a shoe-in.

Are you asking because you want to switch gears and get a different teacher to write your evaluation?
There is a LOT of time yet. It's only the 1st of August.

My understanding is that you submit your teacher’s email to Admissions through your portal and they send the evaluation form to your teacher to submit electronically. Other than giving your teachers a heads-up that it will be coming to them and some background on your worthiness, you are out of the loop.

Many teachers do not check school emails during the summer.

Let the teacher know to check their spam and clutter folders. Very often the SA emails get filtered there.

I told him about it in the Spring, and he even showed me what was in the email. really I'm just worried since I can't contact him anymore he might not fill it our :( or I guess I'm being really paranoid :(((

At this point, yes, you may be paranoid. Why don’t you let school come back into session, politely and respectfully remind the teacher of your request, and then go from there. It’s early August. You’re in no danger of missing anything good. As others here have said many times, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Of course one could always try to reach out to him now. You did get his email address and his phone number before school ended right? If not, perhaps you can explain to whoever is at the school and they might be able to provide you some contact info.... maybe.

Two issues. If your teacher simply left for the summer without writing a rec, then obviously you should wait until you return to school and talk to him again. You (and the teacher) have until Jan. 31 so it's not a crisis and maybe your teacher didn't want to spend his summer writing recs. If the teacher has moved away from the area and/or left teaching altogether and no longer is willing to write recommendations, then you should talk to USNA Admissions about how best to proceed.

My son had this challenge last year. His junior-year math teacher moved during the summer, and he could not contact her.

So, he simply asked his senior-year teacher to complete the requirement. She did not know him well at that point. He made an appointment with her to describe the requirement, and he brought a copy of his transcript, a print-out of his SAT and ACT scores, and his resume. She agreed to do it without hesitation, thankfully.

Not necessarily recommending this because all circumstances are unique: DS’s guidance counselor was not responding to DS’s emails this summer to confirm his activities record. DS found her address and snail mailed her a respectful reminder to check her spam filter for USNA emails. She confirmed the activities within a week. Need to point out that DS and guidance counselor had several discussions during school year about the process so DS felt comfortable mailing her at home.

> As noted, be careful about trying to push teachers during the summer. Keep in mind that many aren't working during the summer, and may be take offense to your intrusion in their life. Yes, I recognize that their are many very dedicated teachers out there who will walk the extra mile to help their students achieve their dreams, and their students/parents often know who they are ...but I don't think USNA Admissions is really expecting to many teacher evaluations during the summer months , and there is little benefit (if any) to contacting the teacher during the summer instead of waiting until September. Now if you were proactive, and thought about this and got the recommendations going before summer break ...good job !

My Son doesn’t have a choice.... 10th Grade English Teacher retired and who knows where she went to. 11th Grade English teacher was suspended in February for investigation of sexual relations w a student. They finally hired a replacement in April and he will have her again for his Senior Year. My Son was kinda stressed when it was still up in the air if they would give the replacement a permanent position. What a mess! Lol
