My Story and Who I Am

Texas - There will be a few that you will actually fear (and I would let this thread die). BCT is one of several leadership assignments required of cadets each summer. Mine, rather working BCT, is a jumpmaster for AM 490. Soaring IP, summer seminar and athletic camps are other examples.

I am not speaking for my son - I am sure he will fear. When you get older you will appreciate where I am coming from. But thanks for the answers on the selection. My daughter was curious on that.

To be a big fish again!

Good job! Remember that you will be joining thousands of other big fish. Some people have trouble getting used to that fact, many do not.
Like many others, I busted my BUTT to get into USAFA. I tried twice and succeeded the SECOND time! :thumb:

And then spent four LONG years walking around the terrazzo, looking at my classmates and everyone else and asking this one, all-encompassing question:

HOW THE HELL DID I GET HERE WITH THESE PEOPLE???

I was totally outmatched...I was the BMOC in HS and yet at USAFA I fought for 4 years to survive academically!!! The rest was a piece of cake for me, but I battled the Dean for 8 miserable semesters.

The "upside" of that?

I went to grad school twice later in life...and what a BREEZE that was! A civilian campus, normal academic load, no extras...Yep, a 4.0 GPA!

So...imagine a world where EVERYONE is just like you or better!!

Still, great story and great accomplishment!!

Sorry Tex - thought you were a kid. For those currently at home the neidermeyer(animal house) comment - if from coming from an applicant/candidate/basic - will sometimes be distributed electronically to the Wing with your name or picture attached. Each year there are several names that everybody in the Wing knows, and in general these kids don't make it.

Doc no problem and I fully understand how everyone needs to integrate even "Maverick" and "Mayo" did that is the lesson. I showed the video to my kids to prep them and they wanted to be the instructors some day. Just one small step of challenges that lie ahead.

Keep up the good work!

Ah... I remember last year when they posted the article of Mr. Eagle Scout who planned to be the first on Mars . That article was over the top. Regarding this article he is just the opposite, I don't hear any boasting, I read about someone who has had a crappy start to life and work his butt off to fix it. That is the kind of leader we need. He did not have anyone driving him around to BoyScouts or to endless afterschool activities to pad his resume. Just hard work. I like it. I am too familar with the Bay City area, glad he is getting out of town. Don't look back, I am sure you have the strength to excel. Congrats!

GET OFF MY BUS! I like that one.

I know of a couple of cadets who are hoping to be those sweet cadre types this summer.

Haha, it's hard to figure out some cadre.
One of my friends is 5 foot 4, but she can inspire outright fear...one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

One of my basic cadre (from the A-course) was intimidating enough that I purposely tried to avoid her (the ONLY upperclass cadet in the wing that I tried to avoid). One day, I got an e-mail that went something like this: "To the freshmen I saw in the mailroom today and gave the box of cookies from my grandmother to: I need the box back. There was a letter from my grandmother inside. Thanks." I couldn't believe it was the same person. :yllol:
