Second and third week were a bit more relaxed as we got the hang of thingsDD said the first day Indoc was shock and awe and the first week slightly so. 99.9% went to bed the first night questioning their decision to attend. First week is tough and the first phone call is distressing for most parents. By the second call all has changed for the better - once they got the gist of what the detailers wanted it eased off. Exactly half way thru Indoc the detailers went 180 degrees. Same as at Plebe summer. Half way thru they change out the detailers who beat them down and the second half detailers replace them and are there to build them up. No change in personnel at NAPS but a change in approach to the M/Cs. By the end of Indoc they have formed relationships and have become teams and are speaking the lingo. The Navy knows what it is doing - trust in the process.
No off base liberty for the NAPSters until the first AC grade period is over - DS said beginning of November. Captains decision. Only, sports teams get off base for their events. Parents weekend coming up this Friday - Saturday. Hurricane Lee could be a factor. Seems NAPS schedules the visit the same weekend that Newport has their Boat Week - hence, the lack of nearby lodging and where available very high prices. Would definitely suggest for future NAPSter parents to get a room as soon as your DD or DS is appointed. Also, get a room for graduation at the same time, which we did. Finally, as soon as Thanksgiving and Christmas liberty is posted get the airline tickets - Providence does not have much service - mostly regional jets so they fill up fast. Alternative is to fly in and out of Boston, more selection but further to go. BTW, directs are not allowed to stay in the dorms during holidays - only priors are allowed as they must use their military vacation hours if they do. Assume sponsor families could help out directs if needed for holiday lodging?Second and third week were a bit more relaxed as we got the hang of things
Most likely the same amount, give or take a few , that quit every year. You can look up the stats if you are as interested as you seem. How many people have quit?
The NAPS football team plays Community College teams and other Prep schools, including MAPS - the little Army-Navy game (this year at West Point). They will be at the Yard in November for the Air Force game and will play Navy's equivalent of a JV team the Friday before the AF game. In the past the Battalion has attended the Army-Navy game. This year it is 45 mins away in Foxboro MA, so I assume they will get to attend that classic. NAPSters are required to attend all home games of the NAPS football team. We saw them scrimmage this last Saturday for Parents Visit Weekend.do NAPSters still attend Navy football games or is the distance too great to travel every weekend
