I am in no position to speak on behalf of NAPS or USNA but I am under the impression that those who attend NAPS fall into three groups: Prior Service members who spend a year to getting back into the student lifestyle, recruited athletes who need to develop the skills needed to both balance D1 athletics and a military lifestyle, and lastly highly qualified high school students who the academy feels could use another year to develop themselves so that they succeed to the highest degree possible at Annapolis.

My daughter got a nomination to USMA and USAFA although she had also applied to Navy she didn't get that nomination.
She was turned down by Army and was still waiting on Air Force when out of the blue she got e-mail telling he she had been selected for NAPS. We felt if somebody wanted her that bad, we would take the chance and accept it over waiting for Air Force.
I'm happy we did, I have a good feeling about this.

Wow-- so your DS did not get a Nomination to USNA but got an invitation to Naps? that is what we are hoping for. Did you reach out to anyone or just out of the blue?
my DS would be thrilled.

Out of the blue. HOWEVER she had applied to Navy and had requested Navy as her first pick at the Congressional interview. We don’t know who had they’re eye on her but obviously somebody did. The more I think about it, the happier I am. Good luck and don’t give up the hope, I know the NAPS folks are really busy right now.

That is exactly how my DS's went. Interview the guy asked him point blank "so for sure your #1 choice is USNA?" he said yes sir--but to be appointed to any would be an honor. We will keep hope alive as we examine plan "B's"

Hoping for a little advice. My DS is still waiting on USMMA and holding out hope for NAPS --but plan C i guess-- We have heard a couple different "prep/juco military schools. Can anyone suggest a good one to go to if he wants the USNA next year? i've seen MMI in AL, NMMI in nm and Greystone in tx. we live in tx. I do not know if there are stats on which one is better for USNA or anything like that. Suggestions?

and then required actions

My daughter attended the summer programs at both West Point & Annapolis this last year with a young man who received a scholarship to the New Mexico military Institute. This is the same place that another guy we know who attended there last year got picked up for Navy this year so I would guess this would be a good pick. Good luck to you, I know it’s a tough road.
 
I have another question, did any of you appointees to NAPS receive a LOA to NAPS?
