AB5397, My son is a recruited track and field athlete (pole vault). His test scores were a bit low for direct entry to USNA, so he was offered NAPS. He is very familiar with USNA, as his 3 older siblings attended/attend USNA, but he's our first to attend NAPS. Should be an exciting ride!
DD is a recruited pole vaulter as well, just offered NAPS, and has to make a decision quickly. We had not researched NAPS since she was told at NASS last summer that her scores/grades were too high to get a NAPS offer...so we are now desperately trying to research so she can answer the coach on the offer. We have found some info online regarding academics, etc, but we are also wondering if they have a pole vault coach or if the pole vaulters need to try to train at camps in the off-season. She doesn't want to lose her PV skills before moving on to USNA. Do you know how they train? (I am new to this forum, and could not figure out how to send a pm)

Hi PV Mom, sorry I am so late responding. I think we may have already connected on the NAPS parents FB group. From what I understand, they do not have a dedicated PV coach, but the assistant track coach is somewhat knowledgeable. They do have an indoor and outdoor pit. The indoor has a relatively short runway. My son would get a six step on it. I think he said 80'. They do train year round, and nobody my son has spoken with has felt the need to go to an offsite club for practice. I think my DS mainly wants to maintain his current status, keep his technique, and gain some strength and endurance.
