My DS is currently at NASS 3, the airline rerouted his luggage due to the number of cancellations Delta had at BWI yesterday. Unfortunately it seems they have completely lost his luggage. I understand the Naval Academy gives them clothes, but he literally has nothing else, no socks, underwear, toiletries, his running shoes, etc. He reported when he checked in that he had no luggage. Yesterday when it became apparent that his luggage was likely lost not just delayed, I called the Naval Academy travel number, per the instructions provided by the NA. The individual I spoke with gave me a message to relay to my son for him to explain to his squad leader the situation, that the squad keaders had been instructed in these situations to allow them to go to the store on campus to purchase toiletries and that the squad leader would help find him bedding, etc. The squad leader very clearly responded not his issue and told him not to leave his room. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get my son some basic necessities? I can’t imagine the underwear and socks he traveled in yesterday will last long and I feel it’s to the benefit of his group that he have deodorant and a way to shower. Given the response of his squad leader, I feel certain mom calling the travel issue number again will not be helpful. Would Instacart be an option? Would they even bring it to him? I’m open to any suggestions. I’m hopeful that his squad leader was just ”in character“ yesterday and will be more reasonable today. Thank you!

NASS is an Admissions program, and they have a vested interest in the NASS attendee experience. On Monday, call them, ask for a staff member working with NASS, and let them know neutrally and matter of factly what has happened to date and ask them to please check to see if your son has been given/will be given an opportunity to shop at the Mid Store. The Mid Store is not open on weekends but should be open tomorrow.

Good lesson learned for him on traveling with a small roll aboard for the overhead bin and backpack for underseat storage. I used to travel weekly for business, and that was the only way to avoid lost luggage for trips of 7-10 days, underwear and toiletries always with me.

They do give them clothes as you know, and I’d be willing to bet another guy or two will loan him shampoo or a pair of socks or whatever. I hope it works out and that this is just an opportunity for your son to meet some good friends, not a miserable experience.

Big time, +1 to @Capt MJ! Doesn’t help in this situation, but for future travels. ALWAYS take a carryon with toiletries, a change of clothes, and important things. In fact, I hardly ever check a bag anymore.

It’s will work out for him. Buddies will chip in, and he will have great memories/stories. MidStore will have the basics, and the rest is covered with NASS gear. He even gets a mesh bag that he can CARRY ON, back home.

I hope y’all eventually get his bag back. He’s going to have a blast!
