NASS acceptance and denies

So how did you know? DS applied to NASS and was accepted early but he hasn't mentioned any other correspondence other than NASS related so I wonder if he missed something? Or maybe nothing yet?
I know because I was accepted to Nass like 2 months ago and on the acceptance email it gave me my candidate number

My DS is still waiting. Will they be communicating today to all pending NASS applicants? Also, if not accepted, will he find out about being a candidate and have his portal opened up?

I believe USNA will notify everyone of their decision by 4/15 today.

Unfortunately I was not accepted to NASS, but I was accepted to SLE! However, I would have not been able to go anyway as boys state is the same time.

I applied early to SLE as USMA is my top choice, and later on to NASS as I knew I was not able to go but wanted to open my app and see if I could get in. Does that affect acceptances? Was I more appealing to USMA because I applied early and less appealing to USNA because I applied late?

I actually had higher ACT scores on my NASS app than my SLE app, as I received my February scores (higher than October) after I had already applied to SLE but before NASS.

Don't think too much into it, maybe your district has less kids applying to USMA? NASS, SLE, AIM etc are more for kids from underrepresented districts the SA wants to attract:)

Ugh! DD was turned down for NASS. Kind of thought she was would have been selected because she was selected for and attended a CVW (March 2016). Guess they don't have much to do with each other then. Oh well press on!! She was selected for Air Force Academy Summer Seminar so that's still a positive in the right direction. Good Luck to the rest of you waiting to hear!!

I am not 18 yet, so as of now, I can't start the process. But yes, I am aware of the latter part of your response.

U.S. citizen is not a requirement for NASS. It's only if I am offered an appointment, I must be a U.S. citizen by I-Day.
@GlacierNote, you are correct that U.S. Citizenship is not a requirement to attend NASS, but must be attained prior to I-Day. For Class of 2021 that is 29 Jun 2017.

Are your parents applying for U.S. Citizenship, or are you waiting to turn 18 to start the process yourself? There are many factors affecting how quick it can be done from applying to actually receiving the naturalization certificate (e.g. the city and state you live in). Even assuming everything goes smoothly, do you think it is realistic to expect you will be sworn in as a U.S. Citizen and able to produce the paperwork to admissions that you are a U.S. Citizen prior to 29 Jun 2017?

What about applying for a nomination? Have you researched/contacted ANY MOC District or Senators' office to ask if you can even apply for a nomination before you are a citizen? I do not believe a statement from you like "I will be naturalized before I-day" will make you eligible for the nomination process because you do not have control of that. I commend your interest and effort to become an Officer in the U.S. Navy, but I hope you have already looked into these obstacles you are going to be dealing with and make sure it is indeed viable. Could you tell us what you are able to find out already? I am not trying to discourage you, just want to make sure you have thought of all these things.

Btw, all commissioned officers in the Navy are supposed to be eligible for TS clearance or higher. In the case that you are eventually commissioned, if you have immediate family members that are not U.S. Citizen, that could limit your opportunities for assignments or jobs available to you. Just want you to be aware of this as well.

NASS is a good experience, not the end of the world not getting in, my DS went a few years back and was not accepted to the academy. CFA took him out of the running. He was straight a's and ACT 34 but had the arms of an ant. But has since gone on to a top notch university and couldn't be happier. Hang in there

Just got my denial letter, I'm glad though because I am now an official candidate for the United States Naval Academy! Best of luck everyone!

Trying to make sense of it all is the worst part. We are very hopeful that a Service Academy will be in her future, however, she is an awesome kiddo and will excel in the path that is really intended for her. With that being said....my stomach is still in knots and she has a whole year of this. Wow!! But ready and holding on for the ride!;)
I just wonder what the difference is on the criteria to be accepted for a CVW and for NASS?

"Success is never final, failure is never fatal, it's courage that counts" - Winston Churchill (attributed).

For those not selected for NASS/AFASS/SLE: pick yourselves up, dust yourselves off, go kill the USxA application in the fall. There are other amazing summer opportunities for you - find them! Like many have already said - SA summer programs are not indicative of your chances as a candidate.

For those who got in: Congratulations! Don't take this to mean you are a shoe-in at getting appointed later on. Hard work is in the future for everyone.

Same for me! I was selected for the Air force academy summer seminar but put on the waitlist for naval academy summer seminar

I spoke to an admissions officer during my DS's CVW. A CVW invite is generated based upon the submission of an application to a STEM camp or NASS application. You are not judged by the contents of the application.
