Anyone heard back yet? Last year seemed like they started as early as end of January. TIA
I would recommend CVW over NASS anyways. NASS feels very much like the recruiting tool it is and it is a fun ‘summer camp’ if you’re into that (some people did very clearly hate it and I think that’s the day they closed their application). It’s a lot of information on applying and I met my admissions advisor but I already knew a lot of that stuff from my own research so it didn’t give me a ‘leg up’.Some people hear back in February, but I didn’t hear back until April because I was placed on the waitlist and eventually got rejected. I did receive an invitation to CVW in my rejection email which I took graciously and my experience at USNA solidified my desire to attend USNA.
For those who heard back, did you get accepted and, if so, did you get the week(s) that you hoped to get? If you got rejected (sorry!), was there any reference to CVW?
NOTE: that is not in concrete as it can change quickly as the leadership changes.you see how the mids live (off of lots of take out food).
I attended both CVW and NASS during my junior year. I felt like CVW was more of an experience to see the life of a mid during the academic year while NASS was more of a preview of plebe summer, however both were incredibly enjoyable experiences and only solidified my desire to attend USNA. To be completely honest, I felt like NASS was a more valuable experience just because you can experience a USNA lifestyle for a longer period of time and you get a free chance to tryout/take the CFA, a required component of the application. Also during NASS, you get a preview of sea trials, a PT evolution that happens towards the end of the academic year for all plebes.I would recommend CVW over NASS anyways. CVW was better for me in determining if I could see myself at USNA because you see how the mids live (off of lots of take out food).

Within the Admissions World, I've been told for several years now that USNA Admissions really wants to provide maximum chance to "kick the tires" at USNA to candidates both near and far. Candidates who live within a few hour drive include a region of VA, MD, WV,PA, DE, NJ along with some from surrounding states can pretty easily come and visit and many/most do so with or without NASS or CVW. Beyond that region, consider the cost and transport time involved in getting to personally see USNA and without overnight stays, etc it becomes pretty difficult for many to accomplish. They would like to use NASS as the primary vehicle to accomplish this and CVWs as necessary. Now I know that mid-Atlantic candidates still get to attend NASS but a personal data point from me is that I used to have 2 to 3 NASS attendees from my BGO schools per year and now its rare to see even 1 and I have the same schools now that I did then. These are just my opinions...
If someone is sold on a SA experience then a CVW is probably a good fit. It really dives into what day to day life is really like. It lets you envision yourself in the halls and see if this is ‘right’. If someone is torn between multiple SAs, then a CVW is probably a good fit to compare and contrast. Summer Seminar is fun and it’s the first time many of these kids meet like minded very driven kids with similar goals. For many, they ‘find their people’. For those who have very little exposure to a SA, SS is a great program. Yes, it exposes someone to USNA, but it is not what day to day life is like as a Mid. 4 hours of mock sea trials is fun, but that is it. Plebe year is 25% of a Mids time at USNA. Plebe Summer is 6 weeks of a roughly 206 week program. For many they will be offered one or the other. For the few that ‘might have to choose’ think about what you want out of your experience, what questions you have, what are your concerns. Align those with what program is better for you and where you are in this journey.
That’s really going to change my college decisions thenNOTE: that is not in concrete as it can change quickly as the leadership changes.
My son got his invite yesterday to the June 1 session, so they are definitely out.Anyone heard back yet? Last year seemed like they started as early as end of January. TIA
