NASS acceptance updates

My daughter received an email as she was boarding the plane this morning for CVW. First email was acceptance followed by an email this afternoon that she is attending session 1.
My daughter will also be attending session 1. (She returned from CVW today...)

Did she enjoy it? I am waiting at the airport right now but based on the texts I received my daughter loved it.

I will be attending CVW MArch 21-23 and I got my acceptance email for SS yesterday, so for those asking if you have to choose between CVW or SS the answer is no. You are able to do both if you are accepted to both. Good luck to those applying and beat army!

A friend of mine (California resident) just heard that his son received an email today accepting him into the 2nd Session of SS.

DS got the same email for 2nd session yesterday as well. He did a CVW in January.

DS got his acceptance for Session 2 yesterday. He is thrilled and now has June 9th as his CFA goal motivator. Today at school was college day so wearing his USNA T-shirt our the door he was walking pretty tall with s huge smile!

DD has not yet heard back about NASS, but we're in the DMV.
I have not heard back either, starting to get more nervous and very low expectations :/ Heard from USAFA SS back in February and USMA SLE this morning. Good news from USAFA, not from USMA. Fingers still crossed for NASS though! Good luck to your DD, I’m in the same boat :)

I replied to your other thread. Don’t get discouraged! Nass attendance does not indicate your competitiveness for an appointment.

DS from CA has not heard a word, but a friend's son (also from CA) got accepted earlier this week. Our DS's older brother is a senior at the Academy (commissioning in two months, yeah!) and I'm wondering if that might work to his disadvantage. One would assume that if he has a brother there now, he's been sufficiently exposed to give him a good idea whether USNA is a good fit. Or it may just be his grades and test scores! Who knows. Glad this is our 4th and last son and we'll be done with the college admissions process in about a year! Good luck everyone!

From USNA for those who will question where the information is from.
"11-FEB-19 Summer Seminar Updates
Students who have been accepted to NASS 2019 will not normally be invited to a Candidate Visit Weekend (CVW) during March and April 2019. These two weekends will be reserved for students who do not receive a spot in NASS. If a student has already confirmed a spot for the March or April CVW and they have been accepted to NASS, they will be contacted and provided the option of attending the CVW or NASS, or withdrawing from the CVW to allow another student who will not have the opportunity or will be unable to attend NASS for another reason. Since there is a possibility that our message may be misunderstood, the primary method of communicating with these candidates will be via telephone.

A student may apply for NASS regardless of place/year in school [college student, graduating early, 5th year of HS (i.e. a certified Aviation Maintenance Technician School)}. The key element is that the student will be 17 years old by I-Day for the Class of 2024. Age is the key, the student may need to adjust their high school graduation year in the drop down and explain in the ¿Remarks or Additional Comments¿ section of the application."

Does NASS lead to appointment? This is a single data point but DS (who has kept in touch with everyone in his NASS squad) says that he is the only USNA appointee (as of March 21). One other squad member is appointed to West Point (which was his first choice but did not get a nomination to USNA). Three decided (after NASS) that SAs were not for them.

There are many, many threads on this Forum discussing the impact of NASS acceptance, rejection, or attendance.
The official word is that it has no official effect upon your ultimate success as a USNA candidate, and I have no reason to question that. However, you will see many postings where candidates/parents think it matters.

...but it doesn't.

Of course it does. That was CLEARLY STATED by 2 USNA admissions officers this week during a NASS informational webinar that my son viewed. They basically said that the detailers there at NASS will write an assessment of each of their squad members and that it DEFINITELY impacts one's admission packet (both positively and negatively). I have told my son to approach SS as a preliminary job interview.

There is definitely a recruiting "angle" to all of the SA summer seminars, but if you go to one and distinguish yourself, it will 100% help with your admission (all things being equal). That is the fact that just stated by the 2 officers on the USNA admissions board.

I think this topic gets as much attention as pretty much anything other than admissions and 3Q speculation. I agree with the experienced folks in that attending or not attending NASS probably does not have a massive effect on your potential for a nomination and appointment, so you shouldn't be discouraged if you don't get it. However, in DS's class, 2021, there were well over 250 appointments who had attended...what the statistical correlation is, if any, no clue. But to say it has nothing to do with anything doesn't sound right to me, either.

I agree that if you go to NASS you should try hard, be a good team player, and treat it as a job interview. I don’t think you should mail in any interactions with SAs (or anybody for that may). You never know who you’re making an impression on (good or bad) in life.

As I read the opinions from others on this topic if you were uniformed you could believe that since you did not get selected for MASs your chances for USNa are less than someone who did. That is just not true! DS has applied to SS (IMHO as a BGO he is very qualified as a candidate) but his chances of being selected are very slim according to Admissions because he is very aware of USNA. Folks please don't read anything into being selected or not to SS. BTW if you are selected to Boys/Girls State that does add points to your application.
